I like your style. "That arm is coming off anyway, might as well let it blow up when it does!"

You would probably be surprised how many matches I end alive and with arm intact. :)

Tempting - and the extra speed is very useful - but I either spend to much time with the shield side completely gone - or I get overconfident and wander away from the Big Boy's I usually escort.
That and I use that build more on my CN9-A, which cannot mount the 300. :)

If it works for you, then by all means!
I used to use the XL300 on my CN9-D when I ran my modified-stock build, and it can work very well. :D

Gauss rifles on a Wang are when I want a different flavor of Wang. Sometimes its really nice to brawl through enemies and carve a swath of bloody destruction all by yourself and know your team is looking on at you in sheer amazement.

Other times you want to load up 5 or 6 tons of gauss ammo, sit in the back, and take pot shots at folks to terrorize them from afar, like some kind of White Death. Surely they can hide from your slow ponderous gauss rifle? Not quite. At 106+ KPH you are a speedy gauss rifle with legs and that opens up so many avenues of attack.

Not to mention 4 module slots allows you to really piss off some pugs by smart application of consumable artillery and air strikes. Become an arty spamming noob today!

This message brought to you by Vlar Engines, our 300 XL engines are powered by tears!

EDIT: Smurfy link for great justice. YEN-LO-WANG - gauss rifle, 2 medium lasers, 300 XL, 5 tons ammo, no FF armor because it doesn't matter too much.

This baby you should know:
I play it like a Mech build around a Defiance Deathgiver Assault Class Autocannon....the other stuff are toys
Deathgiver
MISERY

Because i like the sound of that gun
AS7-D

and i really like it
CTF-3D

there is nothing as nice as a explosion on the target - with the most satisfaction on light mechs that run away
YEN-LO-WANG

Although there is a time - when you can't mount a AC 20... that always make me cry:
WVR-6R

Role: Assault Mech the original
TDR-5S

And i really have to ask you PGI - where the heck is my ZEUS
DRAGON SLAYER
When it was good enough for Leonidas Brannock - than its good enough for me:
DRAGON SLAYER

Running system:
STK-5M

it matters enough
YEN-LO-WANG
fully armored head, even better heat efficiency.

BUT...still the One-True-WANG

I don't care much about meta. I care about being effective. These are two most effective builds I use, which can be considered as non-meta.
very agile true-skill LRM-boat
ON1-V

CQ cataphract.
CTF-3D
you can put standart AC5 and add one DHS or JJ, if you want.

Ever dig out chassis you avoided because you found the Meta boring, and looked for ways that were non-Meta, but still effective (at least for you?) If so, what are some of your "pet" builds?

yours?

Locust 3M - ER Lrg, Md Laser, TAG /flex (bring it, Death)

CDA-2A - 300XL, 4 Md Lasers, PPC, TAG
CDA-2B - 300XL, 4 Md Lasers, ER Lrg
CDA-3M - 330XL, 3 Md Lasers, ER Lrg
CDA-X5 - 300XL, 2 Md Lasers, ER Lrg, TAG, 2 SSRM2s
BJ-1 - 235XL, 2 Lrg Laserss, PPC
Hunchy 4J - 2 LRM5s, 6 Md Lasers
Cent AL - 2 LRM10s, 2 Md Lasers, ER Lrg, TAG (soon to be a Cent A w/ 2 LRM5s, 1 Streak, 2 Md Lasers, UAC5)
SHD-5M - 300XL, UAC5, PPC, TAG, SRM6
GRF-1N - 280XL, PPC, ALRM10, 2 Md Lasers, 2 ASRM4s
WLV-7K - 320XL, PPC, Md Laser, 2 ASRM6s, TAG
Jager FB - PPC, UAC5, 5 Md Lasers OR 2 Lrg Lasers, AC20
Jager A - AC2, 2 ALRM10s, 2 SSRM2s, Md Laser, TAG
Tbolt 5SS - ALRM15, PPC, 4 Md Lasers, TAG
AWS-8V - 2 PPCs, 3 ASRM6s, Md Laser (or TAG) OR PPC, 2 LPLs, 3 ASRM4s, Md Laser (or TAG)
AWS-9M - ER PPC, 2 PPCs, 2 Md Lasers
Atlas DDC - 2 ER Lrg Lasers, AC10, 3 LRM5s

I kind of consider my Shadowhawk as meta but I also kind of don't. It was originally built to carry a NARC beacon but people are slacking on the LRMs lately. Regardless, it is my ranged RECON mech and the PPC simply replaces the LRM launcher it originally carried. My Victor 9S is my only other meta build in that it carries 2 PPCs and an AC20.

Haven't looked at the others - but that CN9 is about as "meta" as you can get with the Centurions. :)
IE: classic "Zombie"

Thats not the current metagame. There was a huge nerf to SRMs. Even when SRMs were powerful catapult A1 was what everyone was using.

eh, kinda on the fence. Thing is, conventional wisdom is that the only use for the CN9 is as a Zombie. I regularly thumb my nose at conventional wisdom, and use that ballistic, but it is still the myth the "pros" propagate.

CASE? Standard engines? No Artemis? No max armor value? Nathan, you stupid noob! Nope. These 'Mechs refuse to die. FYI, they date back to CB, before MGs were effective and the first Lurmageddon.

my old closed beta stand by
CPLT-K2
Of course, PPCs weren't always that reliable back then. But once they had dialed them in, with the lower heat the ER PPC had back then? Nasty.

Yeah my Caesar build for the CFT-2X was brutal back then with just a single ER PPC and Gauss Rifle. The GR is a bit cumbersome to manage on it these days.
