Spoiler

the awesome doesn't "look" better for being like a barn either. the dragon is an interesting point. hitboxes, aesthetics can be negotiated by hitboxes to be more viable.

read this thread

or how aesthetics can exsist and be made better. the reason why awesomes and such suffer? is because pgi went half heartedly into these improvements. instead of incorporating the whole crotch area paul invented the "thong" hitbox and didn't even pay attention to including sholders as arms and not ST's.

we can have good looking mechs and survive in them too. but some devs like to watch fanbois burn.

I have read that thread in the past, and agree with most of it. That being said, I don't think it applies 100% to this discussion, nor is it mutually exclusive. The more recent mechs I have noted as being very durable have large arms and other ways to spread damage/keep damage off the CT. Carrioncrows has excellent points, and often, adjusting the cut-offs between hit box locations can make a big difference.

However, having large blocking arms will certainly help, and having a smaller CT is huge, period. With a huge, elongated center and tiny, skinny arms, even with intelligent hit-boxes the mech could still be a failure. I am hoping (and am optimistic) that the appearance of the MWO timberwolf bodes well for its durability....and it still looks awesome, even to some who played MechWarrior in the past. I think one can argue quite well that the mech looks overall similar to its classic renders, and leave debate on the finer details to those who are more particular.

And for the record, I think the awesome looks wonderful. It LOOKS like an 80 ton wall of mechanized plate armor that can withstand any assault due to its sheer density of armor. Too bad reality is far different...(and of course your opinion is free to be different as long as you acknowledge that mine is correct ;)).

With it's speed and it's fire power, by the time you line up a shot to leg it, your already half dead. (with a skilled pilot naturally)

Unless the pilot weights 5 tons, i think the Timberwolf is still 75 tons :)

Hey, don't judge the pilot's love for twinkies so harshly.

I believe he was talking about the Awesome (though he forgot to capitalize the name if he was :))

That would be a big pilot though.

Correct, I meant Awesome, the 80-ton assault.

So, put 2x Lrg Lazor on your right arm, 1x Lrg Pulse on each side torso, 2x Med on your left arm and 1x Med on your center torso. Then go solo 2 Dire wolfs, a Jager and a Hunchback and get 850 dmg. I did. :)

I think that the legs need to be skinnier so it look like it could run circles around an atlas like it could (if you uped the engine a little) becuase the legs look like they are taken off the stalker. i hope they dont stuff its capabilitys up, so many nasty varients could be made ;)

I had a closer look at the madcat, and yes, the legs still look awkward.

But I think its less the bulky legs, its their angle.

If the feet would be more forwarded below the nose, the angle would get tigher and would look more like the original one

Maybe also lower the "knees" But having a comparison between MWO TW and others, the lags have a too big angle between the upper and the lower tight. ally to this, the way they were designed by PGI makes this visually a bit even bigger. And this strange angle makes the relations of the legs wrong.
