80 Tonner Engines

both are 80 ton mechs!!
how is this fair? maybe this is related to why the victor is more agile than intended? i mean, aren't the jumpjets enough advantage over the other 80 tonner?
(more agile than intended according to paul and hence why they nerfed the twist, but frankly this seems like a bigger issue?)
how does that make any sense... somebody just decided the way the awesome was balanced was because it looks so cool it doesn't really need anything else. the looks balance it

1. Maximum-Engine power rating cannot exceed 400 or ~8.5x the 'Mech's tonnage, whichever is lower.
2. Maximum-Engine power rating with (round up to nearest 5 or 0):
Light 'Mech = 1.4 x Stock-Engine
Medium 'Mech = 1.3 x Stock-Engine
Heavy 'Mech = 1.2 x Stock-Engine
Assault 'Mech = 1.2 x Stock-Engine
Note: Every 50 ton 'Mech or heavier is therefore only restricted by the multiple of its Stock-Engine rating, since 8.5x its tonnage will always exceed 400.

This thread, if it's still accurate, also demonstrates that a similar formula exists for torso yaw/pitch speed, arm speed, etc.

And yet the Victor and Highlander have been pushed outside that formula.
I don't agree with that specific, but it does mean they can simply increase the Awesome's upper engine cap - if they actually cared to.

Many 'mechs fall outside the norms for their tonnage. The Victor and Highlander have been specifically cited by Russ as being too agile for their class, and I believe they were both adjusted a patch or two ago.

Why not @350 on the base chassis, with Specials where they are at? I would even give up a bit of Pitch/Yaw and twist for the faster speeds a @350 base would provide the WideBus that is the Awesome.

For the same reason that the X models (Raven and Cataphract) get limited in engines. PGI is trying to maintain some semblance of technology factors in variant releases. It is why the one Centurion has a much higher engine cap than its pre-3025 brethren and the same reason the AWS-9M and PB have such a higher engine cap vs. its pre-3025 8 series brethren. X models were originally slower because they were intended to be mock ups for testing and design instead of combat models.
I don't agree with it in the slightest but I understand it and abide by it. Would absolutely LOVE to see my wonderful 8 series get the same engine cap as the 9M and I know the Cent drivers are pissed that 2 of the 3 models are as slow as they are. But, as I have argued in the past, they were designed to be that way and, despite us having the freedome that we have in redesign from stock, we should continue to be limited in that way.

No mechs fall outside their tonnage vs. engine torso yaw/pitch speeds with a20 ton penalty, in the way that the Victor uses the Atlas' twisting speeds.
It's one thing to have a quirk, and quite another to have a 20 ton penalty factored into the calculation.
