Don't think I've seen one of these before, a 3-12 loss, almost a Stomp, but the losing team had more damage done.

Winners: 3499 total damage, avg damage was 291.6

Losers: 3736 total damage, avg damage was 311.3.

Not a huge difference but the numbers just stood out to me as normally a loss like that has a large discrepancy in team damage.

The only explanation that I can think of is that the winning team happens to be the kings of focus-fire, i.e. they aim consistently at one spot, which is either a side torso or the center.

That, or the losing team didn't know how to torso twist.

Damage numbers means nothing in this game, it's about where to place it. Most players just shoot where ever on the mech. It physically hurts me to see people spamming damage on a CT cherry red mech everywhere except the CT. MWO is a game where you need to learn NOT to shoot with an enemy in front of you and wait.

A sign of a good player is low damage:kill ratio.

Or a kill stealer. You make excellent points up there, though, and that's really a large step in this game's learning curve. Once a player has learned to target weak points and fire selectively they'll become so much stronger.

Premithium - in this game? 'Kill stealing' is something that should be off of everyone's radar.

Honestly, I wish people paid attention to assists - a much more important statistic. If your damage is decent and your assists are high, you did something useful. Number of kills doesn't mean much - if a light swoops over a hill and finishes off that mech you're fighting? Whatever you were waiting on, whatever number of weapon cycles he or she kept you from experiencing, helped out your team that much more.

Kill Stealing is just a nonexistent concept in MWO - or should be.

Conversely, if your damage is high and your assists/kills is low, then you also did something useful as you focused on each target, rather than spraying every enemy mech in sight.

+1 about kill stealing.

damage can ammount to something if you don't spray it evenly across enemy mechs; if you're constantly hitting center of mass then you will blow either sidetorso diminishing the arsenal on enemy mechs or hit CT and kill them.

advanced shots are there of course but it depends on the weapon; missiles do a lot more damage to destroy any component than ppcs.

with pinpoint you can make 3 to 4 kills with 400 dmg. easy

with missiles you get 1-2 kill with 400 dmg

Seconded about kill stealing not really being a thing in MWO. I spot an enemy - I shoot at it (unless I'm trying to preserve stealth for a flank, spotting, out-of-range, whatever). The faster it's out of action, the quicker other threats can be focused on, and the team as a whole has a better chance of succeeding. In the words of B33f, KS means Kill Secured. :)

But yeah, the winning team in that match probably had more meta on their side with pinpoint damage builds. There's also that Banshee that carried pretty hard...

plus the OP was in a Catapult and did third highest damage overall. LRMs spread damage, esp with the bigger launchers...My guess his is equipped with 2 lrms 20s? Am I right?

I typically run that cat with two LRM15s and two PPCs.
