Must go premade. Otherwise your experience suffers greatly.
It's not "broken" but it's not working correctly. I think the game "forgets" a particular transaction - particularly removal. In fact, even the "strip mech" function occasionally fails to strip out every component... so there's an actual issue AFAIK.
I usually run my same 4-5 different 'mech depending upon my mood , so I suppose I don't tinker in the 'mechlab as much as some. This was the first time I've ran across it. I'll make sure to follow up and make sure it's a known issue. If anyone can accurately repo it, PLEASE let me know.
Thanks guys!

Agreed. Many in the playerbase have commented the same. The new user experience is , unfortunately, brutal and unintuitive . There are numerous ways to make this easier both in the game client and out , again unfortunately, PGI has higher priority items and promises to work on.
Hopefully this will change sometime in the future as new players are obviously very important to everyone.
Cheers.

1.6 Million sign ups (probably ~15% guesstimate are alt accounts). How many "new users" do they think remain who are interested in a niche genre?
Focus should be on retention and return of players at this point. You can only cycle out so many new players before there aren't any new players left.
Offering free things is a good way to get people back, but offering free things with no real change in game play only gets them back to earn their free thing before they return to (insert other game title here)

Agreed, and not to derail the thread, but using the metric of how many people have hit the forums , is not the best. "Registered Forum users" are simply individuals who have hit the forums at least once.
As you pointed out yourself, data can be viewed many different ways. When PGI stated "X number of people drop solo" , it's fairly easy to question the statement and provide explanations on why that is IE "Of course people drop solo, we cant 5-11 man" ,etc.
The fact that past the initial first year or so , less people bother to come to the forums only indicates that the individuals who are now signing up new accounts are those not interested in the forums, giving feedback, etc. The "Hardcore" are the ones who signed up the first 6 months and used the forums often. (To play Devil's advocate, you could read this data a whole different way)
Retention is very important, and getting Launch Module and CW out are incredibly important on those fronts , as well as fulfilling a promise to players. A New User experience is, in my mind, one of the most important things in terms of the long term growth and health of the game.
I guess at this point it's up to the individual if they want to believe PGI's statements that the playerbase is healthy , and the number of unique log ins is growing.
Start a new thread somewhere and we can bandy stats and retention. I think we've steam rolled and derailed this thread enough ( I am bad at that)
Cheers.

The problem is the ELO system for matching players I believe... I'm not as good as I used to be but I still have a high ELO back from the days of 4 kills to every death... but I still see players who are clearly new with questions like "how do I get out of 3rd person?" and spectating players who are dumb firing LRM's at 100m. Meanwhile in the same game you have four mans where they are all running pop tarting highlanders with 2 PPC's and 2AC5's co-coordinating on team speak... guess who's going to win?
Kinda ties to what I'm going to tell roadbeer...

Prolly a good few of new signs up are experienced players who just make new accounts to get that cadet c-bill bonus or whatever it is and use that to run a new chassis they want. I am sure there are more then afew people who instead of buying mech bays for their account just use the four free ones and when they get filled up make a new account. This also means they should be getting thrown into games with trully green players and are basically clubbing seals. I wonder if there is a way to track accounts used per IP address and maybe get a better idea how much this does go on?
PGI ya listening?

Well, about 3 million kids graduate from high school each year. So off hand I would say there are about 3 million potential new users in any given year.

LOL, that's using PGI stat analysis. By that logic then there should potentially be 90 million people signed up since obviously BT has appealed to everyone who has ever graduated high school since it's invent.
niche genre is niche

I completed this challenge with medicore states and was hoping to claim the mech and do away with the newbie mechs that keep getting me killed.
I click the link and it shows that I have completed this challenge 100% but I do not see any redeem button or code. Please advise!

It isn't a redeemable thing - it pops up automatically in your mechbay, though it takes 15-30 minutes or so for it to register and put it there.
Give it a bit, and if it still isn't there, send a ticket to support.
