I am curious if my perspective is off because of my graphics settings or if the game is designed to make your environment view similar regardless of the size of mech you are operating.
I seems to me that when you are in a Battlemaster, you should be able to tower over obstacles, or smaller mechs, but the 'mech view' seems very similar to that of a much smaller chassis.
Is there a setting that would correct this 'perspective'?

Thanks, for any feedback.

I notice a difference when i swtich from a really short light to something really tall, but usually it's based off how other mechs look not the enviroment. I'm guessing this is because the maps change so by the time the same map i was in the last mech rolls around i've adjusted my visual reference.

There are some obstacles which a light mech can't see over that an assault mech can, like in River City.

But in general I think most would agree that something about the maps doesn't help immerse us properly into convincing us that we're towering giants.

Yeah its felt like this since open/closed beta. The roads are conveniently wide enough so a 'giant' mech can just stroll on through.. and the pipes connected to the storage bays (or whatnot) in caustic valley? Conveniently raised high enough for ALL mech chassis to fit through!

That and the lack of a destructible environment. Why can't my mechs buy the same kind of steel that buildings in river city are made out of? :-/ Or the holographic quantum pass-through-o'tron technology the trees employ so perfectly out on the battlefield.

I think what kinda mechs you were standing around matters too. For example, Shadowhawks are really big for a 55 tonner. A heavier mech doesn't necessarily mean a higher cockpit, or even a bigger frame.

Here's an example from an old thread: A Shadowhawk, Catapult, and Victor from the eyes of a Jagermech

The mech size debate has probably been raging since closed beta (I wasn't around back then but I'm sure it was lol). There are plenty more images like this if you do a forum search for "scaling."

The devs intentionally made plants and trees and such much bigger than they naturally would be, because if they were actual size, they would just be a blur a couple of pixels wide. Same with normal-size rocks and such -- terrain is bigger than normal so that the ground doesn't just appear as one big blur.

There is something that can help a bit.
Go to your installation folder. If there is a user.cfg open it if not, create a new text file and rename it "user.cfg"
Insert this line and save.

Maybe the sense of scale would be better if trees where waist high on an atlas. Instead of tall enough to hide it. With the exception of a few here and there you would bounce off of instead of walk through.

Doubt this will even be on the radar for a few years.... :)

Interesting observations.
I have noticed that when piloting a larger mech, small obstacles, like rocks, will slow you briefly while a smaller chassis can breeze right past it.
My 'perception' is, that this is exactly the opposite from what you would expect.

That's Movement Archetypes.

Also, there's the concept of "facehugging." Getting right up in the grill of a mech taller than you, and the taller mech can't pitch down enough to train its weapons on you. Good strategy for Jenner anklebiters looking to literally bite ankles.

Not a good idea vs good players. Doing that will mean eating an alphastrike. From an assault. To your static face.
