I have noticed for some time that when in advanced zoom ..that part of the screen flickers (ergo - only in the advanced zoomed area). I have asked a fried and he said he has the same behaviour.

It is a "feature" or its a bug ? because normal its not.

Anyone else has the same problem ? it is disturbing to say at least when you play sniper role.

I haven't played in weeks, but advanced zoom has never been "worth it." People determined that the problem was related to how the game was designed - there simply was not an easy way to "zoom" your view without the horrible loss of resolution seen in the window.

Originally the zoom also disconnected the target mech's HUD info box from the actual mech model. If the zoom is flickering it is likely some problem with how they've piecemeal implemented the zoom , and it's fixes along the way, to make it marginally useful. It still isn't very useful. It helps you "hit" a mech farther away, but it does not help you "snipe" a mech with accuracy.

well..you should try it now because they improved the resolution for a long time now...and it would actually be ok if that flicker was not there.

A video would help demonstrate the problem.

I second this.
Originally zoom was not worth it, but now it is clearer and worth having.
As for the flicker I will have to check this out.

I tried it again. It's still meh. I've played recently enough for this 'improved resolution' but it's still not really worth the 4 million cost.

The flicker looks intentional, along with the bullshart glass hazing and everything else they've done to the cockpit.

Matter of opinion ...I have three of them and whenever I drop without one I miss it instantly.

Still don't get what "flicker" is the problem.

The flicker is a very subtle pulsing of brightness over the whole zoom rectangle, possibly patterned. I figured it's meant to simulate an unshielded video cable, because apparently 2 million c-bills doesn't buy you a quality product.

[edit: Snark aside, I guess players could consider it another visual indicator that "something" is there, in case they forget they're zoomed in; hopefully to minimal distraction, as they're already focused towards the center of the screen.]

The advanced zoom doesn't increase LOD for whatever is in the PIP Window, so you're going to be staring at a poorly reduced/compressed version of whatever you're looking at. These lower level lods usually containing overlapping planes or textures causing walls or props to flicker.

is not the walls or other object that flicker - its the whole zoom rectangle...like a pulsing subtle light as draiocht described. other frinds of mine have it too so its not me, its in the game. probably if you dont see it you need to better adjust your monitor settings - use a specialized software, use even the one that comes in win7.

i dont think it is intentional..cause there is no reason to be.

Oh wow, just did a training grounds drop and tried it. It sure does flicker, now I get it. :)
That seems to be a feature, though, to distinguish the PIP from the backdrop.
One of those things you can't unsee once you see them.

It's only 2 mio. c-bills. All my mechs with long range weapons(except lrms) have equipped it. It's definitly worth it now.
