when all 24 players are inside a match; there should be a team balancing pass done in the countdown screen before players are even able to press the ready button.

if a team has 8 assault mechs and the other has 1, put 5 vs 4.

same with light mechs; same with premades. same with noobs.

balance to the best of a computer's ability the players on both sides so the match isn't won with a team that is lopsided or ends up in a stomp!!!

it's quite easy to program i reckon, easier than trying to build matches from the whoooole player pool that is "searching" for a match. it's also easier and less bothersome to players than enforcing a 3/3/3/3 or limiting tonnage so assault players can't find a match for minutes at a time.

i have made this suggestion before but not in such an official way; i hope for the best with this.
and also hope it's enough to discard 3/3/3/3 once and for all

so the algorithm would work kinda like this:

pass 1:
side 1 assaults - side 2 assaults? balance the surplus from this equation. (if 6 vs 4 then 6-4 = 2, 1 for each side resulting in 5 assault for each side)

pass 2:
side 1 lights minus side 2 lights? balance leftovers, same deal as above. 8 light vs 5 light? 3 leftovers, 2 vs 1 for other side at random.

pass 3:
matches played on team 1 vs matches played on team 2? balance.

dont worry about balancing heavies and mediums; those are often not the builds being stacked. they can be used as tokens to switch around for light and assault occupied 'slots'

start actual match.

it would take around 20-30 seconds tops. would solve the balance issue without introducing longer wait times for finding a match or prohibiting players from taking their favorite mech to battle, it's easier to implement than an actual match making algorithm. everybody wins
