had some more really good rounds with the LBX10. still think an AC/5 is better choice because of all the damage being done to one area and not possible spread out.
2 tons of ammo is iffy as well and I feel I really need to show restraint and fire control with it.
quite a toss up at this point. the AC/5 also gives me back my 4 ML which is certainly worth it.
This doesn't math out. If you still have two tons of ammo, swapping the LB10-X to an AC/5 only gives you three tons- and four medium lasers weighs four tons.
Also, the LB 10-X is by necessity a different weapon type entirely from 'standard' autocannon. This is not a weapon for seeking out your enemy first and harming him, it's a weapon for mutilating things that have had some armor stripped. Using it requires a completely different playstyle, one that I don't embrace well in light 'mechs and which is the reason why I don't use the build itself. I -do- use it quite nicely in mediums, though, particularly one of my Blackjacks, but that's besides the point.
The LB 10-X is a finishing weapon, so if you're going to run with that, you don't want to be firing it at its extended range until a lot of stuff is grouped up and armor-stripped. Instead, you have to play coy and pop up into combats already going on, strip the last armor off a location with your laser(s) and pump a close-range shot in to destroy equipment and (if you're lucky) the location on the enemy 'mech as well. If you don't have the right mentality while driving it to do that, then it just doesn't work as a light 'mech weapon.
My recommendation is on the AC/2, because it has virtually the same damage rate as the AC/5, generates more consistent cockpit shake, weighs two tons less (and thus creates room for its own ammo and extra jump jets, armor, AMS, or whatever), and is also just generally more fun to me but that's not a main consideration. It also makes for better practice at staying on target while moving.
