Because they increased the speed of the LRMs the AMS system has less time to react to the missiles.
AMS kicks in at 200 meters the missiles are traveling at a 160m/s
1 meter to 1 m/s ratio so the AMS has 1.5 m/s to engage and destroy the missiles.
So its shooting down less missiles.
Out of a LRM 20 it will shoot 2 to 3 missiles at the current speed.

They changed the ams range from 90m to 120m when they changed the lrm speed from 120 to 175 to compinsate. At 175m/s for LRMs and AMS range at 120m, the ams was nerfed. Oddly enough with LRMs at 160m/s they are both increased the same percentage and end up working the same as they did before any increases. It's as if they wanted the LRMs at 160 but put it up to 175 just so they could lower it later and make it seem not so bad.
