They changed the ams range from 90m to 120m when they changed the lrm speed from 120 to 175 to compinsate. At 175m/s for LRMs and AMS range at 120m, the ams was nerfed. Oddly enough with LRMs at 160m/s they are both increased the same percentage and end up working the same as they did before any increases. It's as if they wanted the LRMs at 160 but put it up to 175 just so they could lower it later and make it seem not so bad.

they also increased the range of AMS at the same time to counter the LRM speed increase, then they nerfed LRM speed w/o changing AMS back

also if you are SERIOUS about AMS consider buying the range module for it to add 16m to it's range at level 2

While the AMS does the same for the target for both the old & new LRM speeds - the increased AMS range also increases the chances that you'll be able to take out a few missiles for an ally being shot at. (plus makes them better against both SRMs & SSRMs)
