I haven't seen a more true post in my life. One DDC on the front lines is a frigtening thing. If the 2 or three crappy "LRM" ddcs with thier short range ac20's and medum lazers. No versatility and nearly every heavy mech can do it better. DDC is an ecm, a shield, and is one of hte few mechs that can force a team to go forward, and the enemy back.

Heres my build (traded out the 20 for two ac5's for longevity, less damage, but im there all game)

Don't put an XL in an atlas, unless maybe it's a boar's head. Everyone and their grandparents know that shooting off the right side has highest prio, and atlas' are prone to losing a side quickly regardless of twisting once you're in engagement range, especially in a brawler type build.

It's not just "half the time" functioning. It is a mechanic to make you lose 100% of the time. Sometimes grotesk misplay from the enemy team or heroic play of your own team can make up for this premade disadvantage. LRM atlases suck like hell (just like PPC atlases who fire 2x then shut down). People who have no clue howto play their role.

Edit:

Just had a game where our Atlas DDC had stripped his ECM from his loadout. That's also a thing, where I wish these people uninstalled. The guy even started to argue how I didn't know what I was talking about... Pathetic.
