Recently got back onto the MWO saddle (stopped way back when 3PV was in the test server), and after reading about the 3/3/3/3 coming up, I wanted to start playin around with the mech chassis I've been neglecting; mediums.

Right now, I really only have 1 medium, the once standard zombie cent. After looking at hardpoint placement on smurfy, it looks like mediums can shine in the missile department because 1; missile boats don't have to expose themselves as much as other builds, and 2; they've got enough speed to stay out of trouble

I also had some questions, since ghost heat has changed since I've played last and I can't find what gets ghost heat and how.
In the context of smurfy, how much cooling efficiency is required to spam 5LRM5s without heat being a problem? Could I drop the 2 DHSs I have and upgrade my 'OH CRAP' weapon to a PPC with no worries?
Do any particular mediums strongly outshine the others in terms of missile boating?
Do LRM5's have ghost heat? If not, which LRM variants do?

Both the shadowhawk and the kintaro can boat 4-5 StreakSRM2 and Bap and can take on 2 or more light mechs solo. Those are not underpowered at all.

drop the er large laser - cockpit armour - arm armour and leg armour but still max where its vital

116 kph - 5 lrm 5 - 1260 lrm ammo - tag - bap
or take out bap and fit in ferro fiber or go 115 kph and have .50 tonns more armour

these builds all worked lovely for me :P

Flanking with your LRM boat speed may be risky but it can be very rewarding
Aim for the CT with medium laser to help the lrm's punchthrough
11 Doubles should be fine or even 10 for 5 lrm 5
There is no ghost heat on LRM 5's i believe and the kintaro is the best medium lrm boat if you want speed over jumpjets because of the 5 missile ports which allow for lrm 5 use at less tonnage

however the griffin can also pack a LRM 30 artemis going 90 kph ish with jumpjets and tag
