They should explode DC'd mechs with colorful fireworks and/or confetti with a huge "Hooray!" just like headshoting Grunts in HALO.

Yes, they do! I've experienced many myself. The client crashes, or my ISP hoses my connection. I wouldn't mind if the match just count me as killed and give my mech back to I can join another match, but that's unlikely to happen since it'll invite people to just disconnect if they don't like the map or whatever. So, just the DC is dead and be done with it.
I wonder if anyone can get the Headhunter achievement by shooting a DC mech.

I'm sure you can but the DC are often times slightly desynced too so actually finding the head hitbox can be difficult.

Well with any luck they'l figure out how to allow reconnecting, maybe somehow lobbies will help get them there
I think a huge part of the problem is that those people don't actually want to reconnect.
To see them explode wouldn't actually help much if any in my opinion. The real work should be put into that players can chose which maps the want to play and which not and that a disconnect or one who tries too long to connect quickly gets replaced by another player whos looking for a match. As long as that's not possible I actually see no reason to have to wait up to 1 minute.

I had a game yesterday where my team had three guys left and the other had just a disco. It was assault, and it was a very close game. My mech, and my other team member's mechs were very badly damaged. As soon as we get within range of the disco, the enemy turrets killed us. Our last remaining player was an AC/20 Jagermech who had no ammo. We were forced to wait over 6 minutes for time to expire, and the match ended in a tie because the other team's disco didn't end the game for them.

This is exactly the kind of situation I want to avoid.

Remember when discos counted as dead and the match would end? That was nice I'd like to have that back.

And in honor of this Great Truth when a Disco we should have Confetti, neon, and music. it is the only logical course, those things have always gone well with a Disco.

You will note: lasers, bright colors, confetti, and a disco ball indicating that it is a disco and therefore also presumably has music.
Disco's count as dead, their pilots eject in something that looks like the above, everybody dances for a moment. /thread
Now I'm off to work on world hunger.
