I've been playing the game for some weeks now, and have very much enjoyed it. However, I've been listening to it through my laptop speakers, which while good enough, I discovered today were leaving a lot out sound-wise.

Played this evening using a quality set of earbuds, and I just wanted to compliment the sound designers because the sound really made this immersive, particularly the mech sounds while in operation. All the little environmental noises I could hear, it really put me in the game. I don't think I can go back to laptop speakers again.

So, kudos ladies and/or gentlemen... Keep up the great work!

+1!

The sound changes in HPG are much appreciated too ;) I love the sound of AC2's on HPG.

This is one aspect of the game with which I am totally and completely satisfied. I love the sounds and I wouldn't change a thing. Keep up the good work!

Yup, sounds are great, and as was said, the muted sounds on HPG are very cool.

Sounds are good. Although we have gone through so many changes that I am not sure which ones were better......

I do miss the missile sounds from MWLL though!

I've been meaning to make a comment on this score. Yeah, they're great — and not only that, but whoever's responsible has tweaked and tweaked over the months to get sound effects just right. I respect that a lot.

(Okay, I wish the AC/2 didn't have quite the time-compression artifacting it does, and that that Ultra was a little meatier — but those are minor quibbles. Carry on.)

They're pretty good.

The sound effect for the PPC could be different. I would like it to be a thunderstorm lightning strike sound myself, but it works.

I do remember when they had lasers with a clown/slide whistle as a recharge sound effect. I actually quit playing when that was in the game.

Agreed, the sounds are great. Would only change the machine gun sound. Wish it sounded a little more heavy duty.

The only sound I hate is when I change to spec someone who has AC5's on...and the sudden increase in volume from normal to deafening makes me twitch in pain ;)

Pretty much all of the sounds are great, most especially on HPG Manifold.

WAIT - sound design fail noticed.

My mech needs a horn that I can honk when people park in the middle of walkways.

BEEP BEEP!
AOOOOOOGA!

Fiero has been drinking. It's a good thing I'm not streaming... people would hear me making engine sounds and honking at people. All 8 flamers are kickin' butt though - woo!

Sound design in MWO is top notch.
  • I love lasers, which manage impossibly to balance the modern industrial aesthetic while still an homage to the 80s pew pew we all know and love.
  • I love the general sense of being inside an armored vehicle even when you're being hammered by missiles and high explosive rounds.
  • I love the persistent crackling left behind by close impact PPCs.
  • I love the reactor hum.
  • I love that All My Systems are Nominal.
  • I love the fact that I can't hear anything in 3pv on HPG (really, try it, it's pretty surreal)
Put aside our gripes for a second to give credit where credit is due. The love and attention to detail that's gone into the sound in this game is top-notch, and should really be celebrated.

The sounds are awesome, very good attention to detail in the guass rifle charging up the sound of the LRM missles reloading after very shot. Sound is just awesome

Good point actually. They do sound much too small a caliber to be a heavy machine gun to be used against an armored target. I'd make a few sound suggestions... M242 Bushmaster 25mm autocannon (M3 Bradley main gun)... GAU 8/A Avenger 30mm Gatling cannon (A-10 Thunderbolt main gun)... Even the good ol' 50-cal would carry a heftier sound than what's being used currently on the game.

Sounds are ok, though I think I liked them more a year ago.

Only thing I find annoying is that the noise the mech makes when moving (and especially when not moving) is relatively loud to the rest of the sounds. In order to bring the AC and laser, etc effects to an acceptable level the rumbling from my mech is too loud, if I reduce the volume to bring the rumbling from the mech to an acceptable level, the rest of the FX is lower than I want.

AC10 RELOAD (CLANG!) WINS BEST WEAPON SOUND, if you ask me... but seriously it is epic.
