I was just in smurfys checking FPS on these two weapons and they are only 200 FPS away from eachother now after the AC5 velocity drop.
Has anyone tried combining thes two weapons since the patch? And how well does it sync up? Seems like a pretty decent combo now, mostly for brawling though I would imagine.

Actually it should sync better than a PPC and AC5 judging by the FPS alone.
PPC FPS 1500
AC10 FPS 950
AC5/UAC5 FPS 1150

They sync pretty well, the issue is tonnage and ammo for both.

Great now that you've brought it up they'll have to nerf AC/10 and AC/20 velocities again because someone will go "OMG that loadout is OP!"

Ohh wait, they already did that... Coming the patch on the 29th this idea will probably be shot... Not to mention the range and usefulness of every single AC.

Maybe they'll nerf Large Laser and Medium Laser velocities, because they're both identical!

and they need to be nerf'd or make ammo explosion actually work...

I'm "certain" PGI has thought about doing that, but then again they aren't ACs.

(No I'm not a fool, I know lasers don't have "velocities" like ACs or missiles, they're near instantaneous weapons)

Hey how about adding ammo explosion for the PPC while you're at it?

:P

I was thinking in an atlas or Banshee maybe, its the same tonage as 2 LBX10s after ammo, and quite a few mechs use them.

Seen quite a few 'phracts and jagers do this combo, never tried it myself, though. From the looks of it it could work quite well...hmm *thinks of stuff to do with/to his orions*

12 tons for ac10, 8 for ac5. 20 tons devoted to ballistics, for 15 damage... not even pin point, though you are hoping it will sync up enough to be close to pin point. Seems to be you then have to think about ammo... so really, what... 26 tons minimum, devoted to two ballistics? (assuming 3 tons of AC10 for 45, and 3 tons AC5 for 90).

Seems to me one is better off just going gauss and getting over the hatred of the charge up mechanic. 15 tons, plus 50 ammo gained for the same 20 tons. Heck, you could try gauss and ac2 even and still come out ahead. 21 tons of gauss and ac2, using the same two ballistic slots, then 5 tons of ammo, probably like 3 of gauss for 30 and 2 of ac2 for at least 150. Doesn't the ac2 move pretty damn fast and close to gauss speeds? Or did they slow it down too? I know they decreased the max range, but I'm talking about projectile speed still.

According to smurfy AC2 and GR projectiles both have a speed of 2000 so they would sync up pretty well if you can manage the charge cycle, wich is not easy. You'd also be subject to the gauss' tendency to blow up in your face if someone looks at you funny.

These combos seem like a try to compromise between dakka dakka and pin-point damage and personally I like the ac10+uac5/ac5 option more but that's just personal taste (and a dislike for GRs). With the current firerates and the GR charging you'd get more DPS out of the AC10+AC5 combo (not to mention the UAC5, luck permitting), then again you'd be sacrificing a range advantage... ah decision, decision.

Now...what about AC10+AC5+AC2 on a BNC-3E, maybe with 2 LL thrown in ...anyone ever try that ?

what happens if you put GR in two weapon groups, charge up on group one and click group two to fire?

Not that it matters too much since people can use macros to do the same thing, but was wondering if there was any support for players that don't want to play using 3rd party programs.
