How to fix your weapon sorting 101!

-----------------------------------------------

Weapons are sorted by how "old" the weapon is. I.E. if you bought a PPC months ago and have it laying around in your private stash, and then buy a brand new medium laser, the old PPC will go into the 1st slot, and the medium laser goes into the 2nd slot.

Steps to take to fix things.

1. Remove your weapons that won't stick properly.
2. "Hide" any excess weapons on another mech for the time being, or sell them off.
3. Install your first weapon, which can be one you already own.
4. Save your build. Change to another mech, change back.
5. Buy a new weapon to live in the 2nd slot.
6. Save your build, Change to another mech, change back.

It has worked for me to get a Griffin to sort it's LRM-10 to be on top of the shoulder, and an SRM-6 to be in the chest plate.

Definitely the best explanation I've read of the workaround needed to do this.

Now PGI just needs to eliminate the need for this workaround. Please prioritize this guys!

Good summary/instructions. :)

Weapon location data needs to be saved to a chassis, not to the weapon itself, and be updated when the chassis is saved.

Sure. I agree.

But, is it really a high priority? Probably not, and even less so because there is a known, if clumsy work-around to fix it on your own.

It doesn't matter whether it's high priority or not, the fix is so easy that it should have been done months ago. Same thing with team balance that still starts a 10 vs 12 match if two players disconnect on the same side. Or the fact that disconnected mechs still stand around on the maps for some reason. And many other bugs that other developers would be ashamed of if they were present in a beta quality software even.

All those things would be fixed within days by a competent developer.

Thanks for sharing. Though it sounds very stupid, I don't want to sell my set of Artemis launchers, ACs or anything else I've collected. I would prefer PGI to spend an hour of an intern to rearrange arrays variables or add list instead of array or many other options to apply, it won't take long, I really do not understand why they haven't fixed it still. This issue exists since first attempts of weapons visuals were added into game (with Cataphract 1X, iirc) and I've sent mass of reports on it, but usually got a reply like this:

Quote

This is considered a non-issue by the Devs and there are currently no plans to change this. All appropriate weapons remain mounted, even if not in the order you have chosen.
Regards,

GameMaster
MechWarrior® Online™

Though my problem was exactly about the order... No comments, only swearing.

It's a design flaw. They have admitted so. They don't care to do anything about it.

This is minor, but they need to realize things such as this casts a negative view on their competency. So when they announce a new feature it's already broken in the minds of some.

This design flaw annoys me much, sad to hear they consider it a non-issue. Limiting my customization options with a seemingly random design oversight in a game where customization is a large part of the experience doesn't count as a non-issue in my book.

Maybe support needs to be made aware that some customers don't consider it a non-issue. :P

If the fix requires me to spend even more c-bills on equipment I already own, then they need to fix their UI and that is their problem.
Not mine.

If you are picky enough that it bothers you, then yes, you need to spend the extra C-Bills. There are far more people who are not bothered by it.

I'm one of the minority, and I spend the extra space-bucks. I'm also one of the people who hates that I cannot control exactly where the Endo Steel and Ferro-Fibrous and XL engine critical slots go.

Looks like we're SOL.

XL critical slots work exactly like tabletop. Three slots in each side torso, no exceptions. Endosteel and FF are mildly annoying, but you can always chase them out of a given hit location and they don't exist for the purpose of critical hits, anyway.

But weapon slotting being screwy actually hurts designs. You want a weapon on the high mount of a Banshee to fire it over hills and such? PGI NOPE, we have all your AC's set for Slot 4 unless you mount em all on other 'Mechs or sell em and then rebuy the SAME GUN AGAIN. Screw up your missile mount by stuffing your big LRM in the smallest tube location? Yep, does that too.

Beg your pardon?

I am a 3D graphics artist, no I don't work for MWO or PGI, yes I have worked on major video games (MMO's and flight sims mostly).

It is often a LOT, LOT harder than you realize. You implement 1 thing, and 4 seemingly unrelated things will break in the weirdest ways.

Please don't throw around things like, "It is so easy, all you have to do is....," when the facts is computer programing is never that simple.

Oh, you are so unique, you might be one of those legendary 3-5 people who know what a programming is and work as system/application developers. Pardon me, I never expected to meet such a glamorous professional on the MWO forums. Surely I don't know what I'm telling and have no right to express my opinion based on my experience after you denied it.

Actually, feel free to express your opinions.

I just don't think you should be so hard on the developers. I don't think what you want them to do would actually be easy at all.
