Hello there,

It's almost time for me to pick a 3rd Orion and I am wondering which one I should give a go.
So far I have the ON1-V and the Protector(ON1-P). They are actually very similar so I would like to get something a bit different if possible.

Right now I am thinking about the ON1-VA, and go missile boat since I do not have any yet.

Orion owners out there, any comment or other idea ?

Thx

K for hot energy builds. VA for lots of missiles (not only LRMs). M if you want a XL300 engine and a pre-upgraded variant (the price is less than if you had to buy DHS and XL300 separately).

The M has poo hardpoints. I'd only buy it if it somehow worked out saving you money on upgrades.

The K and VA are both solid, although the K tends to run hot making it hard to take advantage of the hardpoints. That being said I sold the VA and kept the K as a medium laser ac20 srm brawler.

Yes, the v and protector are very similar, probably best for direct fire support imo. The va and m can be used as missile boats, the 3rd energy hardpoint in m for tag if you want to. I'm currently using the k for brawling, 4 mlas, 2 srm4 and ac10.

K or M. Same thing, but M is more expensive.

Even when the ON1-VA has 4 launchers ? (instead of 3 for the ON1-V) ? Why ?

The maximum salvo is 50 missiles. The VA can also do it -- with a tighter spread, but higher alpha heat (70 vs 63). The difference is minor. The VA's fun uses begin when you consider smaller launchers combined with heavy energy weapons/ACs. For example: 4xLRM5, 4xSSRM2, 4xSRM6.

I'm personally using the V and it's okay.. I'm new to this whole missile boating thing, and it's boring as shit, don't understand why people enjoy it. Overall though, it's a solid mech with decent hard points. I'll likely replace my LRM15s with SRM6s at some point and make a more diverse build which is what I'm used to.

Ooops, thought the OP said he had a K, not a V. Definitely get a K o_O

I run my V with 3 SRM6s 2 MLs and an LB10XAC. Its a fun litle thing :3

Im thinking of getting the K myself, OP, considering my V and Protecter are all basic'd out.

VA if you like builds that Modo44 suggested above (I love mine with PPC+SSRMs).

K if you like brawlers, however the only viable build I managed is 4MLs+AC20 (but it's my highest K:D variant so far due to the high alpha)

I went with the K, V and VA. Was gonna buy the Protector on sale but it seemed too much like the other variants.

ON1-V

This guy knows whats up. Me and a unitmate ran Vs with LRMs (15/20/15) one night. The other two Kuritans in Alpha lance were not in our group...just a coincidence:

I think the V might be even better than the VA at LRMing due to less heat.

VA for SRMs or SSRMS with PPC.

The M makes a great sniper, but it isn't all that good for anything else.

Basically, follow the Billy Mays approach:

Here are my LRMs that are raining down on you right now, BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! I also have an AC20 for you good sir, right in the face, and you ma'm are about to get 2 Large Lasers right in the torso. More to come if you stick with us for the next 5 minutes, with discounts on death destruction, and a special bonus of MAYHEM!

A well rounded mech will not excel at any one role, but it will do ALL of them, and is a terrifying monster to behold.

Here are some builds you might like:

Note1: Consult my guide on mech building, it has several tips that can help you in the long run. I would also appreciate some feedback to help make it more new-player friendly.

EDIT: For time saving purposes I just copied this from a previous post I made, and removed the unnecessary parts.

No Artemis on a missile boat ? Isn't it a must have in this case ?

It was done to save weight for the cannon. You can go without Artemis if you prefer a spray and pray approach. That build's big mistake is the engine. The Orion is already a barn with a 300 rated engine
