Stock Mech Mondays

I.e. the stock atlas AS7-D has 20 single heatsinks. With the way internal and external DHS work in MWO, that is the exact same amount of cooling as 10 built-in DHS. Would it therefore be acceptable to run an atlas D with the stock weapons/armor/etc, just removing all the SHS and running with only the engine DHS? It is the exact same amount of cooling, so the only difference I can see is that the engine-internal heatsinks can't be critted. However, that atlas also wouldn't benefit from increased cooling from standing in water, and would have less crit-padding, so I personally don't think he'd be at any real advantage.
There are several mechs that this would work for - several stalkers, atlases, and a banshee, at least. That would allow people to more easily bring a wider variety of mechs to these events.

well, unless he doesn't spend the freed 10 tons on something else, then I don't really see the issue.

Exactly. For clarification, the mech's actual equipment, armor, etc would all be 100% stock, it would just end up way underweight. In game, it would play exactly like a stock AS7-D - same weapons, same ammo, same armor, same cooling, etc. The only difference would be what I noted in my post about the heat sinks not being crittable but also not having leg HS for water cooling and not having heat sinks crit-padding weapons.

Ah, I might need to make it more visible some how but...there is a thread in the admin section called "Tags: The Forum Kind Not the Raven 3L Kind" for people to let me know what they need tagged as, want changed, etc.

Quoting Skyer Stralende from our forums:
"Comparing the AS7-D stock 20 SHS and with 10DHS on smurphy, everything about heat dissipation and heat capacity is identical. The only difference between the DHS 'shortcut' and FF/Endo is that the DHS are housed in the engine and cannot be critted.
This can be advantageous if any of your limbs or torsos are blown off because, unlike the pure stock AS7-D, you will retain full heat management.
One of the most significant features of Stock Mech Monday is the uniformity of each variant's loadout. If I destroy the right arm and left leg of a stock AS7-D, I expect it to lose 3 heat sinks and a medium laser."
And it's not too expensive to make the transition. Like the Endo/Ferro "trick", I would truly only advise it as a temporary solution! I think if we all give ourselves a strict line not to cross regarding modification we'll be better off in the long run with our little stock community!

Odd, I figure the 8Q is as vulnerable as some LRM boats, get within 90m of, nothing but a SL for defense unless he has good allies.
Similar weakness on some other stock like a Griffin-1N.
