Is there an XP guide like there is a c-bill/money guide to doing what nets you so much XP?

Not that I've found just yet, but just some general XP gains I find during a game. Spotting assists, direct kills, tag/narc bonuses, and capping assists generally do give you more XP than usual. Not sure the exact amounts of each, but these are what generally give me the most XP in short term engagements.

Something that I have noticed is that on a game where I got 2 assists and my team lost, I got 4 XP for the two assists, but then I had another game where I got 1 assist but my team won and I got 102. Does that seem correct?

Assist XP has to do with damage done to those mechs. So less damage is less XP. Sorry, I don't know the formula.

an enemy mech is 200 XP, however that is split between all those that dealt damage to it in proportion to how much damage they dealt.

I've had a game where a teammate KS'ed a mech I was soloing, I ended up getting 180XP, while the guy probably got 20 XP plus the kill XP.

What you get XP for is as follows:

Kills,
Kill Assists,
Component Destruction,
Spotting assist,
Tagging Assist,
Narc Assist,
UAV Spotting Assist,
Turret Destruction,
UAV Destruction,
Counter ECM
Savior Kills

There might be one or two more, but that's the general gist of it.

EDIT: added counter ECM, as Dragonfett pointed it out.

EDIT2: Added savior kills as RedEagle86 pointed out.

Savior kills are 150 XP, you get them I believe when an enemy is hammering an ally and you assist in killing them before they kill your friend. Could use more data on it to be honest.

I know Counter ECM because I had seen that a couple of times in my COM-2D.

Also, it's good to know that if you do all the hard work and someone steals your kill, you get more XP for the damage you do.

Don't forget Saviour Kills (very large bonuses, not sure what qualifies). Might also be SK Assists, not sure. Haven't played in a bit - busted mouse pad.

You get a Saviour Kill if you helped to kill an enemy that did internal damage to one of your team-mates in the last 10 (iirc) seconds. They're great Xp and moneymakers.

savior kills should make a cha-ching sound when you get them. some cbills should pop out of the mech like in mario bros.

basically though, blow up enemy mechs, thats what gets you the most rewards.

if you are really hard up for XP for a mech, (im looking at you spider 5v) i got to say that tag-spotting and UAVs are a fantastic way to make alot of XP. a well placed UAV not only helps your team out (even more if you have alot of LRM mechs) but will net you a ton of XP from each uav assist as well as countering ECM.

you can also make 5-20k cbills from your UAV bonus as well, so the 40K cbill cost is offset somewhat when used effectively.

if your in a big mech like an atlas DDC, dont worry, xp will just happen. you should be doing tons of damage/kills/assists.

I am not really all that great of a pilot. I have yet to get a kill in my Thunderbolt TDR-9S (my heaviest mech).

Thuds are not really so much about getting kills as they are about taking a beating, so I wouldn't take that as a sign of being bad with that mech. :P

Hey Shar, I saw your XP guide and it only covered XP for Counter ECM, Kills (and the distribution of XP), and Savior Kills (which you apparently do not need to kill someone to get. I remember getting the XP for it one game when I had no kills but a few kill assists).

Still working on the what-gives-xp part.

You do not need to get a kill for a savior kill bonus (and will be noting that, thanks for the reminder) you just have to have damaged an enemy who had been shooting at a teammate in "critical condition" within the last 10 seconds before they get taken down (the enemy not the teammate)

I cannot currently remember what each thing is worth, and am trying to find the numbers for them - thanks for reminding me about that bit though.

Edit: wrote assist, meant savior kill >.<

You get the savior kill for kill assist as well. Since their introduction, at least 60% of my assist have been savior kills as well. Kinda misleading if you read savior kill but then read in chat that someone else got the kill. Caused me quite a few times to declare a savior kill with "Nice, got that one - oh, never mind. Kill assist" in TS when dropping with a group.

Only if it actually qualifies as a savior kill - I get a lot of kill assists with no savior kills.

Savior kills are from the rare occasions when someone gets cored/near death and you help kill or actually kill someone directly attacking the guy that is cored. Some people get it often, some don't, but it is good for extra C-bills and XP, and generally lead to good games.

Thank you - updating :D
(should have more to update next time I play)
Edit, may be lazy of me, but it makes it easier to update my guide, if you post that in my guide. :P

I've had, only a couple of times, a "defensive kill". Not sure exactly how I got it, the one that jumps to mind was when I was in a conquest game, capping a point and killed a mech that was charging at me. Don't recall exactly how many XP it was worth, but I want to believe it was in the same ballpark as a savior kill.

That might be for killing someone as they were uncapping a base you owned maybe?

I'm not sure how to get it properly.
