If you want a challenge: SHD-2D2, XL300, 4xSRM4, 1xAC10, 1JJ. Who needs arms, anyway?

If SRM work for you, my god damn golden boy has a 70+ alpha strike. I dont care who you are, it will wreck your face(if HSR lets the missiles actually hit you) Otherwise I agree with the 4SP hunchie, nimble, no giant hunch, SRM(again if they work) or streaks or none, lasers. Pretty easy to make a good loadout using std. 275, making it crazy nimble for 50 tons and tough.
Otherwise zombie cent. depends on if you have to swing over your own tonnage or if this is an actual "equals" dual.

I've found the Wolverine 7k to be very effective. I run one with a large pulse, 2 mediums, and 3 srm 6's, an xl 300 and JJ. I know the xl is a vulnerability, but the thing runs at 97 w/ speed tweak, manages heat well and wrecks face.

In a one on one fight, a Hunchback 4P with a large engine and 9 SPL. Especially if it's an urban map.
If it was more than one enemy, I'd still go with that.
If it's 2 on 2, I'd go with this loadout.
<.<; But most people would rather have a Shadowhawk or Griffin.

I'd say anything with jumpjets and an AC20 is the best option for close in duels. Chained streaks are annoying but if you're a fair pilot and can work through the shake (take some improved gyros) the AC20 tends to decide things very quickly.
Otherwise if you have room to maneuver, Shinvector has it right, the ultimate is picking apart an opponent at range in an ECM cicada making sure to frequently change firing position (and keep your opponent guessing as to where you'll appear at next)

A lot depends on the format of the duel – are we talking a boxing match or a hunter’s scrap?
If you’re in an actual Circle of Equals, with essentially no room to move, I’d go with a Boomhawk. SHD-2D2. Maximize your potential armor, focus all of your weapons in the torso and just sacrifice the arms entirely. AC/20, head and CT-mounted zombie SRM launchers, 250STD. Don’t even use the RT launchers or the arm-mounted lasers; the entire right side of the ‘Mech turns into a damage shield, as do both arms. Stuff ammo anywhere you can find room – two tons of ACO ammo in the left torso with the gun, another couple and a couple of SRM ammo spread between the legs. Then smash the other guy in the face as hard as possible and count on your unnatural durability to keep him from doing the same.
If it’s you and your target in Skirmish on Crimson Strait…forget everything I just said. The CDA-3M becomes very tempting if you have an entire map to move around in, as does peppy little guerrillas like the BJ-1. If I were fighting a full-map medium duel, I’d think about my Cicadas before I thought about my Shadow Hawks. Not that you have Cicadas mastered. Out of your three mastered chassis, whichever strikes your fancy I suppose. Of course, you mentioned that it’s a light/medium duel. If it’s a full-map duel, I’d honestly think about running the light ‘Mechs you’re more comfortable with on the same principles. I know I’d be more worried about a Spider in any one-on-one 55-and-under duel than I would about anything in the medium bracket.
