as non english speaking kids, this was amazingly complicated and we didn't even knew what to do at the test where we had to name the Mechs components.

*edit* It is a Firemoth.
Same here, started with MW2 and did the tutorial in a Firemoth. My copy of MW2 came with the Ghost Bear expansion and it was all bundled for free with a Voodoo video card.
I remember getting my butt completely owned by Ravens in that first mission in Ghost Bear......
Clan Wolf Mad Dog Prime was the first mission mech though.....

Rifleman IIC was one of my favorites for a long time, I loved those arms and large lasersm and jumpjets. Though after a while when I got better at the game I used it the least out of the mechs I liked because of it being a one trick pony with it's large lasers, and it was too slow for me. After a while I started to prefer Jenner (for being fast, missles, and having jumpjets) and Firemoth (for maximum speed and difficulty) because I loved to outrun the enemies and having a challenging time thinking I was "outsmarting" the enemies.
I had a few honorable mentions for what I'd use a lot, Summoner (good all around with tons of weapons and jumpjets), Mad Dog (LRMs, favorite design in MW2, and decent build), and Direwolf (for those few times where I just wanted to steamroll everything or mess with the mechlab).
Edit:
In MWO i forget my first mech I piloted, one of the trials of course. First one I bought is a Commando though, which I hated at the time, I'll have to go back to it though. I only got it to save up for the catapult. Second mech was the Catapult, which is one of the most fun I've had with a mech, whether it's LRMing, Splatcatting, or some hybrid (or using some lasers). I tend to do a lot of research before I actually do anything in games, so I knew Catapult was going to be one of my favs.

Now that I think of it, I think your right. I think the first mission of the tutorial was a Firemoth, I think the last mission of the tutorial (trial of position for the rank of Mechwarrior) was a Maddog.

I beat the 4 Jenners that ambush you in the Kurita invasion with it, and used it for the rest of the game in my first playthrough.
I didn't realize until replaying the game later that you were supposed to lose your training mech and steal a Locust from an arena match.
I thought it was great having the only medium mech on the planet with my large laser being the only long range weapon. (until it got destroyed and the techs replaced it with a machine gun)
I found out about BattleTech/MechWarrior from that game, then bought some TROs and played tabletop. I have loved the series ever since and played pretty much all of the video games.
