Not quite, but still funny.

If arty did get nerfed like that it would bring it into line with MW:Os current implementation of machine guns. 260 meters max range, can't hit crap. An AK-47 is more accurate, with a higher ROF and better range.

No, you want a weapon that can instagib whoever you want.

The chance of getting killed by artillery is very small. As such, I know people are exaggerating whenever they claim that people died to artillery all the time. Everybody knows that is nothing but pure BS, just like many of the "XXX is OP" threads around here, because many times "XXX is OP" actually means "XXX killed me! Nerf XXX NAO!"

You don't want a balanced game...you want everything to die in a single shot? Perhaps COD is a better choice for you. Or WoT.

Or maybe you just do not have the stomach for a "game set in a futuristic dystopian society constantly waging brutal war that has killed billions using giant waking machines of death" and "Hello Kitty" is more to your constitution.

<See how that works both ways?>

Okay, so you're not arguing a point, you're just going with hyperbole and disingenuous misrepresentation of the argument.

Longer recycle time so it's not every 10 seconds.

Maybe 20x20 instead of 10x40.

Reduce splash a bit, especially if it's 20x20.

Increase radius and delivery time. A little bit - not much.

The idea being to make it not quite as useful but still useful, more in keeping with every other module so it's more a question of if you take them, not what else you're taking.

Much like Seismic was pre-nerf.

I've been playing with FLD for awhile, so no, those are fine. But those who want to exploit a game mechanic is fine as well, since PGI is alright with it.

Giant walking machines of death....which die at the slightest provocation. AC40s raining from the heavens, with splash damage added on top of that.

Mechs are too weak, damage is higher than TT, doubled armor wasn't enough to keep the ratio. Heat is too high, dissipation was nerfed.

Game is pretty ****** for balance, and some people want things to die even faster.

They should AT MINIMUM remove the cockpit hitbox from the RNG on the arty/airstrikes. It is one thing if they catch a piece of me and I die because I was already ripped up. Ok fair enough, but a PRISTINE mech should NEVER get cockpit shot by arty/air. Those 2 modules are too OP to be able to drop a mech with a cockpit shot.

There are already existing partial force fields for cockpits. I most certainly do not want another one. In fact, I want existing ones removed.

The recent buff was completely unnecessary as far as I was concerned. It came out of the blue, and LRMs were fine. I could hit 1k damage with LRMs pre-buff, so why on earth would they be considered under performing? Though this also begs the question, how on earth were AC2s overperforming?

Prior to the recent buff, I was almost always never hit by artillery while out it the open (I run mostly lights). I just ran away and laughed while the enemy wasted his ammo on me.

Now, I have to think a little bit about using cover. :D

And yet even with these Nerfs someone is going to cry cause they are to much still. and once those are Nerfed another group will complain that they are dying to Arty strikes that only do 5 damage. I have seen my damage per Alpha drop from 80+ to 35 and still players are crying... I can't but shake my head in shame.

And what do you think people do? They put in Adv Zoom or Adv Decay depending on what they are running, then they fill the other two spots with Strikes.

Can't/won't speak for others but I checked my stats and I have carried arty/airstrike is less then 10% of my matches even though I have 30,000 GXP invested between the two. I guess I just don't want to net 20K a win using consumables.

The only real meaningful use of Arty/Airstrike in the pug game is during the solo tournaments, and is the reason I wouldn't mind de-coupling the damage done from the player. Otherwise it is mostly a 40k drop for ***** and giggles.

And lastly I have to imagine these become less effective as the game is switched to 3/3/3/3 as overall team speed will be higher.

Ok...I never use Arty or Air Strikes either...do you know why? Because I don't care about winning. It doesn't matter. If I lose on Conquest due to points, but our team kicked the crap out of theirs...I'm happy.

It's more about my personal enjoyment of shooting mechs. Using Arty/Air Strikes isn't fun to me, the actual game mechanics are terrible and uninspired.

But you know what? If winning ACTUALLY meant something (Maybe in will in CW, I'm doubtful), I will sure as hell be using them.

My lack of using them now, doesn't suddenly mean they aren't OP. It just means I made a decision not to use them.

20x20 does not cut it for me as it has zero chance of killing you outright while having fresh paint. That is not artillery. Make it -- and call it -- mines and I'm with.

We're all replying to stupid comments, since it seems we have different views.

You want a game where 50 (or even 100) tons or weapons and armor can be killed instantly. Seems very silly to me.

Riduculous easy button.

no max range, can remove a component from a mech.

i've lost my arm to this, my leg.

ive been killed within 3 minutes of match start because i got legged and my ammo was in the leg.

I remember people complaining about dying to artillery, even though they were already legged, dismembered, and red all over.

These serial complainers should really be playing "Hello Kitty" instead. Combat games are really not for them even though they think they are.

I've ed to all of this because of Start points at the beginning of the match have been to close and the enemy AC/PPCed me to death... Its a combat game dying in combat happens. Stop taking it so person.

I've been headshotted by stray arty before. It happens, and what sucks even more is the guy who did it didn't have to aim. Even Lurm abusers at least need a little skill. Arty is the personification of meta in a competitive online game. It gives an advantage without any disadvantage, thus making it mandatory.

I'd rather have repair and rearm for a bill sink and not moudle spam.

You got a kill! Predator missile to finish off his friend!

7 Kills! Unleash the Yetis to leg all opposing mechs!

Some people just don't want battletech...PGI among them.

How many times do people have to tell you? Do not put ammo in you legs. And if you insist on doing so, then by all that is both mighty and holy, do not reduce your leg armor!

I go for the legs. And if I am in a rush, I let my team mates right behind me finish you off while I move on to my next victim.

I am playing a war game. I expect my war game to feel like being in a war somewhat. So big guns need to hurt a lot and Arty is a big gun. Now I think I could get behind an Arty/Air strike costing the using player some tonnage to compensate for the Cannon/Fighter firing the beastly damage. :P

So hold on.

Re-read what you wrote Joe. That's a strawman and you're a better guy than that.

Everything in the game needs balanced. I get, absolutely, that your preference for the game is more or less one-shot kills and lots of boom every match. In general I don't think that's the direction the game is going but that's another debate.

Nobody here is arguing for nerfing arty into the ground. Just increased cooldown and the like. We're good with arty being a big boom; it should be. 40k worth of boom. Just not every 10 seconds through out the match sometimes, nor should it be a better choice than any other module.

I get that you're frustrated with the direction weapon balance is going - I know I've certainly bitched about it. That though... it devalues your argument. Saying there should be no effort to balance anything because someone else would just complain and it'll all be too weak to do anything, etc. That's not an argument, it's a surrender and bordering on passive-aggressive.

Really?

So your opinion is that it's just not 'hardcore' enough. Okay. Maybe a 'thinking mans shooter' isn't the place for you. I love me some DayZ; played Arma2 for years. I wouldn't pay or DayZ standalone just because the mod for arma2 is better and, well, free (if you have Arma2).

Arty in Arma2 is pretty right on. Nothing like dropping Willy Pete on some poor ******** trying to cross a hill.

That's not Battletech though. That's an infantry game with modern weapons. Battletech is pretty sci-fi and generally involved a lot of brutal slugging. Arty, airstrikes and the like were rarely if ever fatal and generally just area-denial, seeing limited use. Certainly not a half dozen to a dozen deployments per match.

Maybe you're in the wrong game?
