With everyone always compalining about the negatives, I'll bring up the two major things that make me keep playing MWO.
I'm sure some people will possibly call me a White Knight and flame my post, but it doesn't matter, as I'm in the mood today to bring some positivity onto the MWO forums. :D

Number one of the things and the more important is the core gameplay. At it's core MWO is a brilliant game and PGI did a great job there. It is a lot of fun and once you master the game it's quite rewarding (no respawns really make you think twice what to do).
Rarely I felt sunch tense multiplayer battles. This game will become so much better when CW finally arrives obviously.

The other major thing is actually the community. For a competitive game and one hard to master the community is actually most of the time really friendly to each other.
Sure, we have people complaining on the forums (I do too often enough and PGI/IGP often make it easy for us to complain) and you get the occasional ingame chat flame towards people who don't play well, but that's really only a minority.
For example, I currently really enjoy Smite (nice game). For a MOBA it has the friendliest community, but that doesn't mean really much it's a MOBA after all. ;)
They have some great gamemodes including games vs bots for training purposes and even therE people flame if someone plays bad. It's mad, the whole thing is setup for training playing new gods and others complain nevertheless (often people who aren't that much better themselves).
In MWO, people get far less upset. Even when a solo player suddenly runs away into the enemy on it's own, people stay friendly enough and often people genuinely try to help the newb how to do it right.
That's rare enough these days.

Well, that's really it. Just in the mood to say something positive for a change. Now I better hide from all the people who will call me a White Knight. :D

Mwo definitely has some awesome things going for it. The mechs move and feel correct, which is a significant achievement in itself. The fundamentals of combat are pretty solid.

The problem is that those things which are good were already there, in pretty much the exact form they are today, back in closed beta two years ago.

Since then, the net code improved dramatically, but other than that I can't think of any really important improvements. Indeed, we have actually lost significant functionality. The graphical fidelity is worse. Damage modeling has been simplified. Weapons balance has really not improved much. In many ways, ecm made the game worse, rather than adding any depth. And of course, we lost the ability to easily play together with our friends.

Back in beta, most of us loved this game. But then it not only failed to develop over the following months, but actually regressed. That is the problem.

Core gameplay is very much something that keeps me playing. And it is true about the community (play any RTS or public FPS game and notice how bad it is).

I also like the variety it offers. Some FPS you get a few guns. WoT you get tanks, Here you get 3-5 variety of mechs with dozens of different weapons to choose from creating hundreds if not thousands of different potential configurations, and they keep adding more every month.

And lately we are getting free mechbays or free mechs.

And you can even create a build that may not be the best build, but is so much fun! Like sooming past a group of enemies and hitting one after the other in a quick pass-by for example.

This game entertains me despite the nay-sayers (who still play mostly I am sure).

I like it.

The strongest side of MWO is:
It is the only MMO based on BattleTech/MechWarrior.
:s (since MW:LL death)

Edit: maybe it's a bad wording ↑, but old outdated games could be hardly count in 2014 as competitors to MWO.

Funny no one mentioned it so far ....

Its Battletech......or it should be.
Matters not its the only MW / Battletech game out there where you can pilot a mech so i'll play it from time to time.

Edit: damn too late

IMO, the strongpoints of MWO and previous MW games are like this:

MW3: Best heat system, best weapon effects, best environments (destructibility-wise)

MW4: Best mechlab

MWO: Best controls, best art style

few peeps covered most of it, but I also think the animation looks good. especially when you watch the big mechs.

i will agree with this. the art in this game is great. get rid of the other dev teams and this game would be amazing. who ever idea was to add film grain over these amazing look mech was crazy. those of form CB who saw what this game looked like before. this game can look amazing and was much better balanced back then, sadly.

The core gameplay is fun enough to keep me playing, I used to be pretty bitter with this game would even uninstall it once in a while, but I play it pretty regularly now, and the community is friendly enough when gaming, dont know any other game I've played where people say GLHF you dont see that in cod or halo, pretty much just when someone does really bad in a match do they get flamed but whatever thats minor compared to stuff I hear in other games on the other hand no voice chat so....that limits a lot of hate, a good and bad thing I guess.

I really like the sounds, the 'Mech designs, and of course, the Mech on Mech combat. The combat really is something you can't find in any other game, and that really is why I keep coming back to it, despite the many criticisms I lay at PGIs feet.

What I would like to see from MWO is massive improvements to the UI, especially the MechLab.
I would also like to see more game modes, VOIP, and whatever community warfare turns out to be.

Strong points of MWO - I genuinely don't want to sound down beat and I may not come across like that quite a lot so I saw this post earlier and genuinely could not come up with a single good point so I went away and really thought about it , 3 hours later I'm back . Strong points

- Its a MechWarrior game that in itself gives it some brownie points.

-There isn't a pay to win aspect

- the graphics are okay.
- The games very welcoming if you have played mech warrior a lot.

Honestly in 3 hours that's all I could come up with and it left me wondering why I'm still playing . I'm quite upset with PGI I had such high hopes when I saw this , I wanted it to be great that's why I've made posts that may seem aggressive to some, Because honestly as a new player who's played 3 weeks I'm finding the bad far out weighs the good.

And trying my best to log in and give it more of a chance hoping PGI will pull something major out of the bag, But as each day passes I get more and more frustrated, Closer and closer to uninstalling, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to learn that the lions share 80-95% of new players quit in the first month.

I've tried to make posts instructing pgi in my opinion where I think there making fatal mistakes detrimental to there game, But I'm not a patient person I'll admit it.

My thoughts.

It's an okay little game to mess about with occasionally as long as i try to remember that apart from the way the mechs look (which is nice) and equipment names it has nothing to do with Battletech.

strong points about MWO?

it rips off the old games systems well enough with a graphics update.

To me personaly, every Mech has a different feeling to Pilot and Figth with, and if i change Reactor and Weapos, its like an nearly new Mech as well. I like this diversity. :D

I go out in a 30-ton spider and feel as valuable as an atlas.

The light mechs are so F-ing fun.

Art team

Intellectual property

I've downloaded many F2P titles and uninstalled it the same day... If this wasn't mechwarrior I wouldn't have given it the time of day.
