Something that has bothered me for a long time is the fact that on certain maps visibility is very limited. I was just playing on River City Night and with night vision on I was being shot at with PPCs and I couldn't even see my attacker. Back when ECM didn't exist, this limited visibility - while something I still found annoying - was tolerable since your enemies would still show up on radar.

However, now that ECM does exist, it has always annoyed me that it can be so damn hard to see enemies. The fact that I literally could not see someone shooting at me, even though I was staring right at them, is ********.

I know, PGI doesn't want snipers to rule the meta, which is why they nerfed thermal vision and everything else. However, ECM has been consistently ridiculous and overpowered throughout its existence.

Like I've said before, I love that they decided to make ECM so potent, but as is, it's a 1.5 ton package that only idiots would not make space for.

So, PGI, fix ECM or fix your muddy graphics. Let us see something 800 meters away.

What are your graphics settings set at? If they're set to low your system is likely reducing the 'distance' you see to try and increase FPS. Up your settings.

They're no longer set to max, but they're definitely not "low." I can certainly see 'mechs at a great distance on many maps.

However, even when MWO was 8v8 and I was running on near-max settings, the fact that certain maps were so "smoggy" was annoying to me. With the advent of ECM, it's even worse.

Let's face it, the Devs will probably do nothing, but this is just one of the things that makes MWO a F2P piece of trash. It's a good thing it's got the Mechwarrior license going for it.

Prime reason why map selection, or knowing what map you are going to drop in, along with what game mode is a bad idea.

Hordes of spiders and ravens and cicadas hiding in the dark or snow storm.

I ask because I haven't taken a PPC hit from an 'invisible mech' for a very long time...but I also run at Ultra High everything.

I recall it happening on a lesser system I ran 'medium' settings on.

I hardly ever use thermal or night vision on River City Night. Ever since they brightened it, it is possible to see without it. I seldom used the alt modes even when it was a lot darker and they nerfed thermal.

Since thermal and night vision have a hard cap on sight distance, no amount of tinkering with the graphics settings is going to improve sight distance. The simplest solution is to try and adapt to not using thermal or night vision modes.

When did they add in what is essentially fog/film grain on almost all maps? End of CB? Cant remember as its been a long time.

I remember being able to see across many of the maps in closed beta with no issues much like to you can on Alpine right now.

I will be happy when the stupid windshield glare crap is gone is gone this week.

Well, specifically the 'invisible' 'mech problem was when I was using Night Vision. On other maps, while foes might be difficult to see, they're not straight up invisible.

Hmmm...you sure you just weren't having issues differentiating the mech in that see of dull green? Heat vision has reduced visibility range...and night vision isn't exactly easy to see far in. Just tryin' to help.

No, I am pretty sure it was invisible since I saw blackness, a PPC hit me from the darkness, and then no 'mech in darkness.

There was no green involved since it was just blackness. I am pretty sure it was 600+ meters out.

Though, even in situations where you can see the 'mech, I am often annoyed that ECM frequently grants the cloaked 'mechs the first strike. Why? Because the game is way too grainy / smoggy.
