I used AC2's for a long time and loved them, but recently they seem to just not be doing the damage. I tried AC5's and they seem to be doing a LOT of damage in comparison to the AC2's...but I run out of ammo. On top of that it doesn't seem right since the AC2, vs the AC5, is just as powerful per second (2dmg per hit but the cycle time is much shorter allowing me to fire multiple times).

Basically I'm needing to reevaluate my ballistics and it seems a lot of the tutorials and such are outdated...a lot of mention of a recent nerf. So I'm curious what you guys have been running lately that's been working for you.

AC10.

it doesn't have the hammer of god punch of an ac20, but those 2 tons, and 3 less crits allow a lot of diversity, while it's 2.5 second cooldown allows me to run a LOT of lead downrange. Having twice the ammo of the AC20 helps, too. Plus I can run XLs on mechs like the Orion with it, getting better speed for positioning than I could with the ac20, and it is a WHOLE lot easier to build a mech around 2 of them than 2 ac20.

(I do like the ac20 a bunch, too, just it doesn't fet my playstyle as well)

3rd choice is MG. I just like the dakka.

Mine would have been the AC2 hands down, but not anymore. AC10 sounds the best by far, simply because of its epic reload clang that lets you know its ready to fire, but the AC20 takes the cake for me especially on a fast mech.

Although LBX and UACs look the most badass and I often take them for this reason alone, that and they have there use's aswell.

I was using AC2s und my first Mechs but recently switched to AC5 loadouts and oh boy does that make a difference. AC5s combine good range, bullet speed, dps and pinpoint damage. And the heat generation is just priceless - you can keep firing a pair of AC5s for good dps and you will cool down while doing so.

So theres that, and the AC20 of course. The feel of it is unmatched, blasting someone in the face with the AC20 on my Atlas and seeing him explode is incredibly satisfying. One good shot of that beast can ruin someones day and it is all front loaded.

I really like the UA/C5. Even though the jam mechanic is annoying, I always build and play around the fact that it will jam. I like the fast fire, the damage, and the range. It makes a good primary weapon as long as you have some decent back ups. My Shadowhawk uses one with 2 ML and 3 SSRMs. Had one game with over 800 damage.

There's nothing more satisfying than seeing your target crumple from an AC20 hit.

I've also been having fun with various speedy AC10+SRM builds.

There was a time when I would say Gauss Rifle (loooooved my double Gauss Ilya) but I think the charge up time has taken that weapon a bit out of favor with me. Just don't like the feel of it with the charge time.

Nowadays I'd probably say my favorite is the AC20. The AC20 now acts as my more powerful but shorter range Gauss Rifle.

I really liked the Gauss. I dedicated my K2's to them...I'd have a pair mounted with all the ammo I could handle. Not much armor and no secondary weapons but I was snagging 3~4 kills per match before I got tired of them. Zoom in and take headshots.

I didn't know about the charge time until a week or so ago when I went back to try them again. Now it pisses me off that you can be walking along and they'll explode with a couple good hits. If they're not charged, there's nothing to explode.

I want to try the AC20's but I got nothing that can carry them lol....unless they somehow fit on a Jager. I haven't tried that chassis yet

All Jagers can carry an AC/20 in their arms.

AC 20.

You have to get close to make the most of it.

You have to be patient with your shots.

You really can't squander ammo.

It has, imo, the most raw visceral appeal of any weapon in the game.

The AC/20.

If I am having a bad day (in-game or IRL) the AC/20 makes me happy. Very happy.

It wasn't always this way. I still dream of the pre-August 2013 uAC/5s. 1.1 seconds reload with 25% chance to jam with only 20 shots/ton of ammo felt like a nice give and take to me. Of course, those days are over now.

My favorite is the Gauss Rifle. If you don't like that. 2+ (U)AC/5 is a good alternative. It just requiers more then one Balistic Hardpoint, more Tonnage, and Critical Slots.

The AC/10 for versatility. Nice damage, good dps, decent range, doesn't generate too much heat, can fit anywhere.

I really like the LBX10. I can't say It has better results than other ballistics for me, but it is still my favourite, just for looks, sound and feel.

Used to have dual Ultra AC5s but I sucked with them so I switched to dual AC2s with 3 slots of ammo (even though I never use it all up). They don't feel like they do any damage but they don't use too much heat in my builds so they're almost a necessity.

I like the AC20 for its immense punch. Nothing beats tagging a jumping light that's moving at 130+kph and blowing him out of the air with a well-placed round.

I like the LBX-AC10 for its great feel and solid finishing power. I'd like it a lot more if it could actually use its longer range, and more again if it had some kind of compensation for its lack of concentrated damage. I favor bumping up the damage per pellet, but there are other possible modifications that could work. The saved tonnage and space are very nice for making builds work that a standard AC10 can't run, and the sound and feedback when you fire one is very satisfying.

I like the AC5 for its reliable long-range punch and decent closer firepower. It's light enough to run in groups, and now that the AC2 is worse in almost every case it is the only solid light AC option.

I like the MG for its supreme internal shredding, though it benefits immensely from boating. Plus they sound great and are fun to watch.

I like the UAC5 for when sheer firepower is the most important consideration. Even with jamming it puts more dakka down range than the standard AC5, and a lucky string of shots can be absolutely brutal. Plus, you can still run it in pairs if you are careful with the build.

What exactly happened with the AC2 and why?

Is there a trick to making the MG's more effective? I was running a set of six on a Jager build, along with a couple of large lasers, and they never really seemed to do much of any damage. Just made an awesome noise.
