One is of the special geometry variants that the people who bought the packages gets, the other is the normal variant. Its hard to guess, but based on some posts from the devs, I assume that the special variants will have an (I) after their name and chassis designation. I for Invasion.

Makes more sense for (R (Revival)), quineg?

I apologize if someone else wrote it somewhere else, but maybe the hands are used to give punches by rotating the torso in close combat.
I know that with or without hands is the same thing, but with those hands it's more professional!
Maybe... :)

Close combat is for the incompetent who lack the skill to maintain their distance and as such should never even be contemplated by any self-respecting warrior.

(Regarding IS/Clan split queues)
If true, this will end in tears.

People have been crying all over the forums already about it, but look at it this way: good or bad, we currently have six Houses dropping in mixed drops - where is the outrage? These Houses have HATED each other in varying degrees for centuries! Why would you be ok dropping with a Mercenary, who your FRR people despise, instead of a Clanner that has done nothing to your people (yet)?

If Clans are implemented the same way, what is the difference from the current status quo? Four initial clans, six houses, lone wolves and mercs - does that mean we should have 12 characters per account to play?

(Sorry, the IS/Clan divide outrage just annoys me when I'm currently forced to drop with Dracs...)

I wouldn't base much off of that thread, as they are WAY off base compared to what has actually been stated. I'm on my iPad, so finding all the threads would take me all night, but I'll try to look some stuff up when I get home if I have time.

Suffice it to say that there will not be ANY restrictions on which mechs (IS/Clan) you drop with until CW is implemented, at the very least, and anything after that is completely guesswork because PGI hasn't even said how faction and lone wolves will even work. I don't think mech selection will have ANYTHING to do with it though.

In NGNG podcast #105 (timestamp 22:30) from just last month, Russ said that faction play is where "...if you're a Clanner you're a Clanner and play a Clan 'Mech and vice-versa if you're a Kurita or whatever..."

Is your information more recent, and where from?

It bothers me too and I keep hoping they'll do something about it, but clans are an entirely different ball game. One thing I know PGI has said is that they're keeping IS and Clan tech separate, as in no mixed tech. That's a balance consideration as much as it is a fluff consideration, but not allowing clan tech on IS 'Mechs is pointless if you throw clan 'Mechs into the match blender. That will just make the game a complete win/loss pachinko machine.
The tech base is and should be an important distinction, but I don't think people 'shouldn't' be able to have clan 'Mechs and IS 'Mechs on the same account as long as they have separate 'pilots'. Our skill system was supposed to be a place holder anyway, so sure I'd love to see people able to make 12 characters per account IF they want to burn time to skill all that, but if community warfare gets done right most people will want to pick a side rather than working at cross purposes. (I helped take the Butte Hold production facility for my the Liao, then again for House Steiner! Wait. . .)
Personally, I want to turn the Clans out on their ear this go 'round.
Skol.

How can they have gotten the Stormcrow and Puma so right when they got the Timberwolf so wrong? The excellent renditions of the lighter Clan mechs we've seen so far just makes the butchering that they put the most iconic of the Clan mechs through even more painful.

At least it's better than the mw2 rendition. That one looked like a submarine...

For one, the "outrage" is that we still have no CW, that is exactly what you are describing - we want separated drops for houses and mercs, that's why we want CW so badly. I guess no one really is ok with the current system, it's just the fact that PGI changed nothing on it for the last 2 years, so it became your "status quo".

On the other hand, the houses/mercs at least have the same tech basis, while Clans will bring in a whole new set of technology. Mixing it doesn't (and shouldn't) make any sense both lore-wise and balance-wise.

Those legs are so amazingly thin, with a sexy leg gap, gona love piloting this machine. Looks hard to leg / small leg hitboxes, which is great for a fast ground pounder.

Listen to it in context, though. That is my source as well. The "Faction" tab, at least the way Russ is describing it, is going to be sanctioned role play, taking the private match system (where you can currently do Clans vs IS or House vs House, etc. all you want) and applying their own rules to make a faction experience. The public queue will still be in place, as he states several times during that discussion, and will allow you to drop in whatever mech you want with whatever faction you have.

How this all works together, though, is any bodies guess, but PGI has stated that ALL players will contribute to CW, which includes Faction, Merc, and lone wolves.

I did, He describes three modes of play:
  • Private matches: this is what was just added. Players make the rules
  • Public matches: pretty much what we've been playing all along. Mixed faction teams. Players can play any mech they own. Earn XP and CBills, but you're not taking over planets or earning LP, you're just playing to Rock'em Sock'em Robots.
  • Faction matches: This is CW. You can be Clan or IS. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if you're in a group or a solo dropper, and you will probably be able to choose whichever faction you're representing or change allegiance as easy as you can now: go to the page and click a button. Lone Wolf in this instance just means that you're not aligned to anybody (not even a merc group), but as described at the Launch Event, anyone can take up contracts (Lone Wolves may earn no or reduced LP because they're not aligned to anyone). This would also satisfy earlier discussions that LW's be "filler" for faction matches.

I heard it differently, but until they clarify it with SOMETHING concrete, it's all conjecture. Russ is great and all, but even if he said it in exactly the words you wrote, I still wouldn't believe it until it was confirmed by someone on the design team.

I am just happy to see a medium with teeth. Not an anemic 20 point damage poptart or ECM poker. Not a dedicated brawling one hit wonder. An actual, honest, pocket heavy mech.

I do agree that an ® would be better than an (I). I like the title revival more than invasion but the devs have referred to the clan mechs as invasion several times. No clanner sentence ending from me! :P

I am confident they will choose revival, just as they chose Phoenix.
