They should either remove cockpit glass and film grain, or make it mandatory for everyone. Otherwise it gives an unfair advantage to those who mess with it.

What does the depth of field setting do?

Depth of field. My bad Depth of field is the grains that alter your distance perception also know as fog of war. So it gives you a modest amount of clarity effects like smog on caustic acid rain will look clearer along with smoke effects. Nights will look a bit brighter. It minor at best.

You watch at 1080hd to really see the effect.

The effect has always been very pronounced in MWO. It makes mechs in the distance blurry too which is easily noticable on maps like caustic or alpine.

This pretty much forced me to play with post processing set to low since they disabled the variable.

And why Isn't film grain and cockpit glass a normal menu option? Having to mess with config files punishes those who don't read the forums... especially new players and/or those with low end system that would greatly benefit from the 5-10 FPS cockpit glass steals...

You want to be a gamer and get the best performance in your games? You have to learn to mess with config files. It's been tradition since the WFW 3.11 and DOS 6.22 days.

I didn't say that I didn't want to mess with it.

Surely you can see how enabling performance sensitive option in the menue so that EVERYONE knows about them AND can easily adjust them benefits the community?

Will the public matchmaking for a two person group try and match it with another two person group?

Yet, another gaming evening gone, CET zone. Downtime 7pm and counting (8:30pm now). Thanks PGI. When are you going to care about the Europe/CET zone players?

Well.. somewhere is going to get screwed, there is no time in the day anywhere, where it isn't gaming prime time for somewhere else. (This is my current gaming time right now...even being in the U.S.)

Who would you pick to be screwed in your stead? NA? Australia? I'm sure they'd love you for the sentiment.

(And before you go "You're just saying that because you're in the US.. I spent 4 years in Germany getting the same treatment from blizzard and such.)

(Also- Patch is UP)
(Edit again.. that patch was unsettlingly fast...like 1-2 minutes.)

BEST PATCH EVER...

This is what MWO looked like back in Jan 2013 when I first played.... before Depth of Field was messed up... or that HOrrible.. horrible Film Grain and then the icing on the cake was the horribly implemented Cockpit glass (where you can get severe SUn Glare on your front windshield because the back of your mech is not drawn on your own screen or in a Cave sunrays go through)..

All of these stole frame rates or made the game unplayable for my beloved Light Mechs... I used to get 60 frames per second on High settings... all the way to 20 Frames per second on Low settings now...

I can now enjoy the game again... finally... no headaches or eye strain...

Yes a slider would be nice but most PC gamers know how to use a cfg file so its no biggie..

THANK you PGI... for fixing your mistakes

gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0/1 (off/on)
r_DepthOfField=0/1 (off/on)
r_HDRGrainAmount=0.0-1.0 (film grain amount)

EDITED....

Maybe not the best Patch Ever..... Hmmmmmm
Working as Intended?
First time ever played a 5 vs 5 Match!

I'm at a 80% fail rate at trying to find a match, cycling through light/med/heavy mechs - 2 games found in 45 minutes. If this is what's expected, they should pay out CBills every time the match maker fails to find a match - playing 2 games in an hour will make earning any kind of money even more impossible (but hey, you can buy Cbills for MC now!!).

Also, the second game I got wasn't 3/3/3/3, we got an extra light at the cost of an assault. This is much better than Steiner Scout Lances, but I thought the 3x4 was a hard rule, I guess not.

Cockpit glass gone is nice, but at this rate, I'm not wasting 4 minutes in 5 waiting for a match! Or at least let me play with loadouts while searching...
