Here's how to not hate Terra Therma, in one simple step:

Step 1) Don't rush into center like a tool.

That's all there is to it, folks. Just don't go into center. There's no reason to.. there's nothing of value there. There's no pot of gold at the bottom of the lava pit.

Move around the OTHER parts of the map... The fights are pretty much guaranteed to be far more interesting when everyone's not jammed up into little narrow pathways into the center.

This. So hard.

Terra Therma also sets a good baseline for heat management, and teaches new players to have some discipline. If your mech can do well on this map, then good golly gee gosh you can just go buckwild on Frozen City, alpha away those 3 LLs.

Wow... THIS thing's back again? I've seen more than a few of these put out... they're not doing it because it's a good map even though people can't figure out to NOT go to the PUG Zapper all the time and die for one. For another, there are only 13 maps and 2 of them are night time/weather variants!

You do realize PGI, in order to get the Clan resources out on time has pulled all art staff off of map construction, right? That and UI 2.0 is why we haven't had a new one since HPG Manifold in December.

I'd say brace yourself for no new maps till after the Clan mechs are released, then maybe one or two is my estimate, then CW comes out... in theory... after which new maps might come rolling out fairly quickly because of the pressing need for them to simulate planets. I dunno, but that's my theory.

That's why it's nicknamed the PUG Zapper. Located in mount Derp, surrounded by the Ring of Dumm.

Don't go there. Frodo's in another volcano and he's not signing autographs.

I love my laser weapons but I don't care about the heat on Terra Therma. What bothers me about it is that it is a more boring map than it should be. It's basically square and the only interesting feature is the volcano. The rest of the map is mostly unremarkable. Everyone drifts towards the volcano even in modes where it is not a stratigically important feature because it's the only feature that sticks out.

Yep. I don't really mind the heat, but the map design is very simplistic - there's the volcano and a whole lot of unidentifiable nothing out there. The map also encourages bad play in the "blunderdome" in the center, and the endless dark colors and lack of recognizable features do become grating after awhile.

It's not a terrible map, but it's on the poor side and definitely brings out bad play in the part of many players, which is why so many people hate it, IMHO. Whenever that map comes up, I find myself thinking, "Great... let's see if the team is smart enough to handle the center properly or if I get another loss because everyone decides to stand in a door way and die one at a time."

The problem for me with this map is not the heat, it's the terrain vertexes. The invisible walls frustrate the ever-living [scrap] out of me. It is one of those maps that needs love development-wise. It doesn't need to be outright removed.

best map in the game, if you can't deal with it i suggest you learn to create a build that actually has heat efficency !

balanced mechs do well in TT, if your constantly shut down due to heat i suggest that your build needs a major rethink and more double heatsinks :)

Here's an idea to fix Tarra Therma: fix the god damn matchmaking system.

Keep random maps sure, but allow us to chose our mech/loadout AFTER THE GOD DAMN MAP

There is no reason other than sheer laziness for this. Hot map coming up? Let us switch to our mechs designed to handle heat better. Let us have pre-stored loadouts, since people might like always using the same mech, but would have different loadouts tailored to each map. In real life, you'd pick the best equipment for the terrain, and as for games, this is the only one that immediately comes to mind that allows zero planning for the map.

I'm in for changing it, not because it's hot, that doesn't bother me, but because of the layout.

The concept is cool but I really don't enjoy the caldera fight which develops in every match. A few more features or change in the layout would really help it.
