I can get cockpit glass turned off, but I see no effect turning off or on Film Grain. I've tried it on DX9, DX11, with both Very High and Low settings.

What's it's supposed to look like? I'd love to get rid of the "fog" that washes out the colors on most maps, I was hoping this would do it.

My user.cfg file:
gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0
r_DepthOfField=0
r_HDRGrainAmount=0.0

I'm using an ATI HD7970 video card.

An example of non-MW:O HDR Grain here. There are probably MW:O-specific examples out there too.

The washed-out colors and the "fog of war" are a deliberate part of the environment on those maps. Ambient lighting is a huge factor in how colors show up. You won't be getting rid of that.

Turning off all of those options should help you see farther in the distance, and everything should be clearer. However, it also depends on the graphics quality you're running at as well -- some of this isn't enabled at lower levels.

And yes, I can definitely tell the difference with the options enabled versus disabled. I run at 2560x1440, full-screen, Very High preset.

Thanks for the pic, I'm definitely not seeing that and never did. Must be my ATI card?

Too bad it didn't improve the lighting. Wish we'd get "sunny" maps or variants thereof to do away with the haze. Even on Alpine with all that reflective snow the mechs seem too dark for the environment.

I've found running all Low except for Environment set to Very High works well for me at the moment. Got an upgraded CPU coming soon so hopefully I can crank the detail on the other settings to make things a bit better.

where exactly are these options? I thought they were supposed to be in the game settings. Do we need to fiddle around with the config file?

I was basically expecting a check box like 3rd person view or throttle decay that I could uncheck and forget about.

They made it available in the config file so we didn't have to wait for the UI updates as far as I know.

I don't even see any grain effects, I tried on my PC as well, can't tell a difference.

Cockpit glass made a huge difference though.

Cockpit glass works. Thats off, but film grain doesn't or I'm doing something wrong. Copied and Pasted it directly into my User.cfg and changed the value 0.0 or 1.0. No effect.

I can personally see film grain in the testing grounds on Caustic Valley, regardless of the line in my user.cfg file. In order to see the sparkling grains (different from the sparkling aliasing), point the camera at the sky and move your eye close to your monitor (perhaps four inches away). All of the individual pixels in the sky will be changing color slightly, multiple times per second. Since I cannot discern a decrease in this effect (let alone its removal) when I add the line, I can only assume that this is not functional. I was, however, able to turn off cockpit glass (unlike the film grain, I enjoy the cockpit glass effect, but I need all of the FPS I can get).

Ill just x-post this here as my thread is on the very far end off this forum :D

Depth Of Field

Its still on with post processing set to anything higher than low.

Edit: Image quality is exactly the same no matter if r_DepthOfField= is set to 1 or 0. Just relaunched game and checked from the same position on caustic. Its basically the same as pre patch, if i want it off i need to play with PP at low. What does the variable do than?

Right click on image, open in new tab, left click to zoom in, scroll to top right corner, compare low to med-vhigh.

What is this "[RESTRICTEDMODE]"?

It also depends on your graphics driver options. If you have stuff turned off to get better performance, it won't change no matter what settings you have in MW:O.

You can also delete the shaders folder manually everytime you want to before launching the game.

Its in x:\Mechwarrior Online\User\Shaders

You can't permanently get rid of that, but playing with the gamma setting under video options can help. I turn gamma all the way up on the Death Star, Mordor, and Frozen City Day maps, to increase visibility. Then I turn it down, from 50% to all the way down on the "washed out" maps like Crimson Strait or Forest Colony.. It won't get rid of it entirely, but it does help with spotting mechs at long range.

Just as a little niggle here if anyone is NOT able to see a difference in the film grain.

Are you entering the command like

this: r_HDRGrainAmount= 0.0

or

this: r_HDRGrainAmount= 0

I have not noticed a difference if I used only a "0", but I did notice a difference if I put "0.0". Could be a coincidence though.

To test, try switching out the "0" for a "0.0" and launch in caustic with the largest screen resolution your screen can offer. Then look and see if the film grain is gone/reduced, etc.

I'm still seeing the film grain too. I'm on a r7 250, averything at low except for environment and object details, set to medium.
Looks like they forgot to unlock that line...
