Considering Playing Mwo

I was surprised by how the internet is literally filled with forum sites and rating sites giving this game a really negative feel , I mean the level of MMO's today are pretty terrible but still I have never seen anything quite like this.
I was quite shocked because it looked quite good on paper , But from what I was reading a overwhelming majority seem to want to stay as far away from this game as humanly possible .
So I came to the forums and looked around again was less then thrilled with what I found , The forums seem to be a advert for how not to do things exposing all of MWO's failings and inability's to fix things.
With all that said I'd like to hear thoughts on why you play . And why you think its worth the download?

But as a great mechwarrior once said we complain so much about this game because we care so much about it, We want it to be successful and grow and while there are bugs I'm still on this forum saying; Yes download it, I hope you do and like it. At first it might be tough, but stick with it and you can get good.

you will not win every game, 50% is about average
you will get killed most games, if you rush the enemy you will die, I suggest giving it a try, and possible trying one of the teamspeek channels if you are having trouble

Let's see if I can address you question before the trolls arrive. First MW:O isn't an MMO per se. It's more like a competitive shooter where you continually acquire loot and upgrades. The loot is used to design your battlemech (your in game persona + weapon). The game plays like this: you choose a battlemech (either one of yours or a premade [usually very crappy]) and click Play Now. You're then dropped into a death match with 23 other players.
Matches are played 12 to a side until all players from a single side are defeated. There are no respawns, no repairs. Some matches contain added objectives such as capturing control points or bases which can end a game early - but are not required.
The primary complaint about the game is the difficulty surrounding making friend, contact friends, and generally playing with them (as opposed to just at the same time as them). There are also issues around questionable user experience decisions made for the mechlab (the screen where you select your battlemech and design them), as well as certain game mechanics which tend to be very confusing to new players (ECM, ghost heat, min range, bizard requirements on skills, etc).
Overall, the game is fun to play. Engaging in a giant robot melee is fun to do. Expect to lose a lot, until you really get the hang of it. Know your contributions are very meaningful (your quick losses due to new player mistakes will usually translate into your entire team losing). Overall, I recommend playing the free version for as long as you can. Once you really know that this is the game for you, dive in and purchase a hero mech or three.
G'luck!

Simply put, I play because I enjoy the game immensely. It is probably the hardest game to get into for a beginning player that I've ever experienced, but given time and patience it grew on me. Today it's the only game I regularly play.
Why do I think it's worth it? Huge, armed robots. All kinds of customization options. There is (as I see it) no pay-to-win. And did I mention huge, armed robots?
Does the game have its challenges? Sure. But that could be said about all online games I've ever played to some degree.
Finally, I tend to ignore forum negativity and check things out for myself. I often find that those who don't like a game go to the forums, while those who do like it are too busy playing...
So, I'd recommend that you give the game a chance - but it's likely that you have to give it a bit longer than normal before you get the hang of it.

Yeah, not really a very plausible scenario. Please try harder.
I regularly help new players. I don't help sock puppets.

Playing MWO is like watching a disaster you can't stop watching.

PGI is a small company so nothing really happens that fast. And they’re also learning about Cryengine.
However, the light is getting brighter as they have stuck to their new years resolutions and delivering on a lot of key features on time. We have private matches now, much needed SRM fixes, UI2.0, a new 3/3/3/3 match making addition. We’ve got a lot over the past few months. However there are still people who speak loudly and against anything PGI does with harsh criticism.
Clans and Community Warfare are due soon which will also help flesh out the game and give it some more purpose.
New user experience is a little lacking with only a very simple movement tutorial, and an over-catagorized UI.
However, there’s nothing wrong with trying out the game. If you like the feeling of being in a heavy robot, with powerful weapons, you should have at least some fun. It’s free after all, so you aren’t losing anything but time, but MWO is a lot better than some other games out there. Like Hawken.
Once you get your first mech, you can start customizing it. Customizing your mech’s loadout is really like the other half of the game.
Hope you play and have fun. My advise is to try to stay away from the forums and develop your own opinion about the game first. But when you need some help with the game, do feel free to come here and ask any questions you might have!

The best advice anyone here can give you is to download the game and play a few matches in order to form an opinion for yourself. It's a free game, so there's literally no downside to giving it a shot (unless your ISP has very tight restrictions on how much data you can download, or something).
For me, personally, it's an incredibly fun shooter with some flaws and plenty of room to improve.

i know people today tend to forget stuff incredible fast, but, Blizzard had this nice
"in the future"
list on the homepage back in Vannila, where they stated:
Heroe Classes!
Siege weapons for PvP!
and A LOT more stuff.
it took them till Lich king to get that stuff into the game.
MWO is not really different to many of the (good!) MMOs out there.
What gets it its incredible negative view, is mostly, PGI was a tad to noisy about big features.
And they said NEVER once to often, and later turned that never into an "we do it anyway"
(blizzard did the same btw. A LOT of times, people just love to turn a blind eye on that)
plus its viewed (somewhat rightfully) as bad, how they advertise on sale over sale, and pre purchases which get more expensive each time (but again, to be fair, you get more stuff each time)
and the gold mechs just messed it completly up.
(and again: Server Transfer 25 Euro? Char lvl up SIXTY euro? Blizz did ALL THE SAME)
But(!) if you take a look at it, from a more neutral point of view, we have known since the beginning how the scedule on new mechs would be.
And, after all, its F2P, Download and play?
As mentioned, the endless wait for features makes some people nervous (im really more with the doubtfull guys here)
but, if you simply (could) check all the old posting of World of Warcrafts first 2 Years, the Forums had been FULL of people up in arms about "You promised Heroe Classes! You Promised Siege weapons! You promised this! And you Promised That!"
And bugs, which take long to get fixed, or balance to get archived?
*smile* i remember the ages old video series about Warlocks in pvp ^^
World of roguecraft was the name i believe, it was hillarious.
So, if you are really objectiv, MWO is not better or worse then other "First trys" of a company at MMOs
*edit* and just one last anecdote for fun!
"Blizz we NEED a Build in VoiP Solution for dungeons! How shall we PUG dungeons without VoiP? We CANT play in PUGS without it!"
You know what happened?
WoW got a integrated VoiP Solution.
Yes yes, it REALLY has one!
its just NOBODY did EVER use it!
Its really funny if you consider it
