I don't know if the current software is able to implement this in an elegant way, but...
Imagine a planet like Venus: Extremely hot, rivers of molten lead, sulphuric acid as rain.
Fluff:
The rain can't really harm your armour (and cockpit-glass), but if it hits internal components, it begins to dissolve and damage them.
Crunch:
If a body-part has no armour, it is continuously tested whether the rain causes a random crit (and/or whether it applies 1 damage-point to an exposed component). The time-scale could be adjusted that the risk of going without rain-damage decreases to 10% after 5 minutes or so.
Bascially, it would add another level of deterioration. Once your armour is breached, death is just a matter of time.

Acid Rain?

Curious idea, but if you think the general PUG's opinion of Mordor is bad now, wait till you see their reaction over this.
Also that'd be very, very server intensive. I think. It'd also be very difficult to survive on such a map, only the most hardcore players would enjoy the challenge, and I'm not entirely sure if there's many 'hardcore' players left here. Maybe if your internals were under 25% or something?

Hostile environments in CW matches - love this idea. Details could be tuned, ideally. Always on for "community warfare," option to turn on/off in private matches, etc etc.

So basically the environment causes a machine gun like effect on exposed components?
What about an underwater map that floods our machines, I'd love that!

maybe not rain. But acid lakes. A new map called caustic valley runoff or something?

Damaging rain could be fun. The issue I'd have with it is that it gives a disadvantage to the team that's taken the most damage. The more heavily damaged team is already at a big disadvantage due to attrition, and damaging rain would make this worse. Perhaps instead of damaging rain, some maps could have freezing rain that increase cooling on mechs with open internals.

Reminds me of one of Prosperity Park's fake April 1st patch notes. He had the acid eat through armor and reduce laser range though.
As a light pilot, I'd love a map like this. 32 point alpha to breach the rear armor, see ya later.

But also think.. what has to touch you to remove armor in a choice location?

i've mentioned acid rain in other posts and think it's a great idea,
in my head i pictured it doing minimal damage just enough to melt a commando or a locust after 20 mins standing in it armour and all with out taking damage from enemy fire.
at first i thought it would be a good alternate version of caustic but then i figured new map entirely with rain safe locations each location having a good view of another and be vulnerable to attack from another thus encouraging folk to leave their shelter to escape attack or better attack some one else
