From the research I have conducted there are few, if not only one organization, that even uses "Gold " as the solid paint scheme. Quite a few units have gold trim elements and accents on there Mech's, but none use it as a prime solid colour. Not even the Clan Khans ornament there Mech's or personnel guard with that as the only colour. So, this is quite a break from Lore and Canon for PGI.
The closest to having most of the Mech painted Gold are references of these two units.
- The Wolf's Dragoons:
The Dragoons prefer bold color schemes that emphasize their presence on the battlefield. Unit aerospace fighters are commonly painted bright "canary" yellow or fiery orange, though the classic red-on-black scheme is still prevalent. BattleMechs are typically painted solid colors; red, gold or black are favored hues.
~ although none of the Dragoons Regiments are actually listed as having Gold as there only prime colour.
- Draconis Combine:
Izanaga Warriors - The Dragons Claw;
Gold paint scheme with black accents, opposite of the regular Otomo.
Now most of this won't make much of a difference as anything out past 500mtrs can barely be identified by it's colour marking's. Unless the graphics detail or the map environment starts using brighter colours and not hues that overcast all the other colours, it will not make much of a difference. Good luck identifying that "Gold" Mech at 1000mtrs, I'll just be more concerned as to if it's an IS or a Clan Mech looking in my direction.

Actually, the closest we have is Cpt. Angela "Vanity" Torres, from the 17th Recon Regiment (aka Camacho's Caballeros), who pilots an anodized gold Battlemaster christened "Golden Vanity". (formerly reflective chromed, and called "Vanity's Mirror" till someone mentioned that implied Cpt Torres weighed 85 metric tons and had huge hips)
And while not in canon lore, there is also former Chu-i, Benjamin Myers, turned merc, who piloted a bright gold painted WHM-6R, specifically to draw attention and lure his former Kuritan comrades into honor duels.
