I've been playing since ui2.0, and while I'm getting better, I still have far too many "well, that was an incredibly sucky and stupid idea" moments.

Reading the various guides help, but I have a hard time translating "if you're in a fast medium, pick the right time and then swing around the flank and attack the assaults from the side" to reality. What I really want to know is if there's a youtube channel (or three, or whatever) or other source that I can watch and hopefully pick up some info.

I hate sucking, and I really hate sucking and not knowing how to get better. And I really, really hate being the weak link when dropping four mans with my clan.

I'm trying to learn how to use lights. I really, really suck at them.

I'm getting better at brawling and with mediums, but get frustrated with basic questions like "what's the best way to get into AC20 range?"

I'm decent at LRMs (stalker 3h), good enough to drag myself into a higher ELO bracket, but I've gone from doing 600 to 800 damage per match to 300-ish, or less. What should I be doing to maintain effectiveness, or is lrm'ing just not as effective against the clueful?

On youtube I usually watch the NGNG videos or Koniving's channel. I would also recommend twitch where people stream live. NGNG has a lot of streamers I think. Also JagerXII's twitch stream is a good thing to watch. The downside with twitch is it is live so you'll have to see when they're on. But I think the NGNG guys are spread out for better time coverage.

Most of these channels are not like tutorials but are just footage of good players so you'll still likely learn something.

As for "whats the bet way to get into AC20 range?" Consider also "when is it best to get in range?" The earlier in the match the more likely they're healthy and bunched together and you'll need to read your team's movement. If they're charging go for it. If they're standing off bide your time.

While I haven't got a lot of tutorials going (been working on them but, college finals. Yay @ two recommendations!), I do tend to upload plenty of gameplay videos both solo and with a group.

What I should ask you is what medium are you using? I'm assuming a Shadowhawk, Hunchback, Blackjack or Yen Lo Wang.
If I know what you're using I can find more relevant videos or make some if I don't have them.

In the mean time, I threw up some (Okay, a LOT of) Hunchback and Raven 4X (because if you can treat a Raven 4X like a brawling Hunchback, you can brawl with anything). These videos are (with 2 exceptions related to 'sneaking up on the enemy') all using 1 AC/20, side weapons, and fighting within optimal ranges (270 meters or less).

I scrounged up everything that's related and within the last year. There's even a pure-stock video.
Spoiler

I would suggest watching Phil(a member of NGNG) broadcast on the IGP official Twitch stream. He's a great pilot, plays a lot of mediums, and a good way to observe tactics in action. A great place to ask questions, too

Yep, I've got hunchbacks and centurions (including the Wang) elited, so that's what I've been playing. I keep playing with different loadouts as well, trying to find what works best for me.

But thanks, I appreciate the info.

Truth be told, since the big removal of delayed convergence I generally stopped using AC/20s altogether. It draws a lot of attention and unless you're in an urban environment, it's simply suicide to have one. Instead I pack on a few smaller ACs. AC/20 is 5 DPS. AC/5s are 3.33 DPS with superior range. Pack an AC/5 and AC/2 or a second AC/5 together, and there's absolutely no reason to run anything else.

LB/AC/MG. :) Most overpowered weapons in the game.

Oh come now, everyone knows that is LRM. :)

Always has been, always will be - because they can hit you when no other weapon can!
(completely ignoring the fact that to use LRM someone has to be able to see you)

And the game is the worst form of P2W that anyone has ever produced - since Arty/Air strikes cost MC for the obviously better ones!\
(ignoring the fact that a fair gxp amount will make the Cbill versions equal to the MC versions)

Having got that out of the way....

The Ballistic family is very strong, and I (at least) am expecting nerfs to come soon.

Psst.
GXP spent on the accuracy + the improvement makes the cbill versions better than the MC versions. >.>;

Meh, I don't make use of either of them anyways. :)

Nah, just the one equals them out. Add the other and you make them better. (But you can add it to the paid one to do the same thing).

Also take a look at Mack's Corner he is a pretty good pilot but be warned Mack is not right in the head but it does make for an amusing show.
