Even if it will be an amazing game, and i hope it is, i also gave them some money but... You can't beat years of hype and people spending hundreds of dollars on the game before it's even out.
Most of you whining about MWO will be whining about SC no matter how good it ends up being.

This seems to be a common attitude, but I'm curious.
1. He hasn't done anything relevant in over a decade. More than ten years. If a movie star hasn't put out a great movie in over ten years (and isn't dead), are they still great? Could they still even act?
2. Why won't he "fark it up"? Wing Commander Prophecy was terrible. He doesn't have the backing of a major corporation, and has a fraction of the budget of other games. Star Wars: The Old Republic had several hundred million dollars, the "Star Wars" name, and BioWare (epic game designers) at the helm, and it had all of the same 'pre release' hype Star Citizen does - in other words, it had everything SC did, and more (chiefly money). If a game with more world-wide renown, a better publisher, and more money screwed up... why exactly is SC going to succeed?
I'm not against SC. I like it, I bought in... but the amount of "OMG it's gonna be sexy times!" that I'm seeing is so absolutely groundless.
The artist formerly known as Prince and then Symbol and now Prince again laid low for a very long time and he still has the touch. Same with the late Steve Jobs. Just because they weren't in the limelight for a period of time doesn't mean their ideas and visions are now invalid.
SWTOR took forever to add end game content and their developers had the attitude that their beta testers and players were 'stuck on islands' and their opinions don't matter. Remind you of any other developer?

Just being realistic... this is not some crazy revelation. Just extrapolate PGI history and you know exactly what is up.
PGI history has been not doing anything with weapon balance, and for the first time they've said they're focussing on it.

They have already showed a working demo at GDC, plus all videos released by them are as stated "From In Game Assets".
The Hanger Module is been released next month, which will allow us to see and walk inside and around our pledged ships.
The Dogfight Module(which is what MWO is right now) is due to be released on December this year.
The amount already forked out by my MWO guild.

I'm a Chris Roberts and Wing Commander fan, but you want to extrapolate his history? He hasn't done anything in over ten years, his last game tanked, and his series was sold out to turn into one of the worst movies ever.
As long as people remain healthily skeptical, that's good. It's the amount of rabid {Noble MechWarrior}-ism that some display that I find shocking... although I'm sure Chris' wallet thanks everybody for that.

Sorry PGI, my phoenix package money went to Chris Roberts.
The guy is a gaming legend and does have a track record of designing multiple epic hit games. This is going to be his magnum opus and he has full control over it. Odds are in his favor of not farking it all up.
This man also made the Wing Commander movie, so if you think his genius is all encompassing with the IP then I suggest you watch that movie and reassess...

I don't care how much you throw in with SC, chances are I'll be tossing in some bucks to gain alpha access sometime, but don't be a ***** and complain that you're going to leave MWO for a game that's in extremely early alpha that is barely functional beyond lightshows. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Citizen and I'll likely pour my heart all over it, but be realistic. MWO is here, now, and the devs know there are balance issues.

I'm not talking about lore and movies. I'm talking about video games, video game mechanics, also FUN gameplay... and he knows them. Also, his last game tanked because of the publisher screwing it up. You should do some research...
(EDIT: Quick search turns up that you're cherry picking from his movie career as well, go figure.)
Chris Roberts founded Ascendant Pictures in early 2003 and in just a short time, established himself and the company as a force in the world of independent film production and finance. In 2004, Roberts earned an Executive Producer credit on The Punisher and produced The Big White (Robin Williams, Holly Hunter, Woody Harrelson) and Lord Of War (Nicolas Cage, Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto). In 2005, Roberts produced Lucky Number Slevin. In addition, he served as Executive Producer on The Jacket (Adrien Brody and Keira Knightly) and the upcoming Robert Towne film, Ask The Dust (Colin Farrell and Selma Hayek). The end of 2006 finds him producing the effects laden sci-fi Viking project, Outlander starring Jim Caviezel, Sophia Myles and Jack Huston and to be directed by Howard McCain.

That's not surprising and irrelevant to this discussion, I think we can all count on one hand for video games to movie that has been any good. Note that was the 1st and last time he directed a Hollywood film.
As for the game, most of the old development team from Wing Commander days are back working with him.

what has been shown is really amazing and its going to prove one thing .
either that the project was way to ambitious to begin with
or
that developers and publishers have been holding pc gaming back for the last several several years.
i trully beleive its the second one, as the first may be one heart break to many.

They support bleeding edge dev kits... MWO supports a DirectX release from 2005.

That's basically the case at the moment. Will be playing MWO until we can to drop in and play around with the modules and alpha/beta.
But as it stands now I will not spend any more money on MWO than what i already have - Legendary Founder and Overlord.

Jasen, first I was joking, you would have known that if you've actually seen the movie. Second, he stopped making video games because he was bored and couldn't do anymore with the technology. So he went and produced the movie, it tanked and so did other projects of his like the Thomas Jane version of THE PUNISHER.
His last game didn't tank (Freelancer), it simply was released well after it was supposed to (much like Duke Nukem Forever) it was rated pretty well once released.

You're right, but he also wrote and helped produce the movie. Since he is well versed in the lore of Wing Commander then you think he's capable of writing a much better story than the movie was based around. Hell the Killrathi in the movie looked NOTHING like the ones in the game.

Its not the developers holding the game technology back, its been the 3rd generation consoles. As every publisher that wants to make the games on the console first and than port to PC.
Chris Roberts showed the specs of one of the development PCs in his office and its running SLI 680s with an I7. was in the office walk-though of the new LA studio.
