I usually use my 'stubs' on the sides as shields, turning into fire, won't that work better with fully armored stubs? If I get cored it is mostly the CT directly.

yup those arm sheilds are underrated
if i turn properly those stubs can shield me from some shots and more importantly my side torso
its surprising how those little arm shields can deflect fire

I bought a 2B now and put medium lasers into it and... I am really really really bad with it. Like dying almost every match bad.

I am getting lots of assists with it but have only one kill so far. Needless to say I'll ditch it as soon as I have the basics for it and I decided to get a 3c now and X-5 if there is another sale of that mech (I wish I had gotten it on its last sale!) .

I will run an erppc and 3 or 4 mgs on the 3c i think, I can't seems to get lasers to work well for me. (Though I plan on a gauss build just to see the difference but I can imagine the delay getting tiresome)

What I learned is that the long range of the erppc is really useful to me, it means I can snipe in the beginning, it is really annoying to sit there with your medium lasers and not do anything while your team is clustered behind a hill taking potshots at the enemy.

It seems the eppc is the perfect weapon, I can get in close with it without problems if I want to , as soon as the big mech brawling starts I can chose my battlefield position at a whim and still be effective.

Well, you don't seem to have all the basics for it. Trust me, it's a good mech. It doesn't have the torso only 6 energy weapons like the 2A, but on the other hand, it can handle weapons in the arms, giving it a better range of fire. Try slapping two ERPPCs on it and hitting people from 800+ meters away, on the run.

CDA-2A, 3C, 3M and/or X-5 if it goes on sale again.
I was actually trying to buy the X-5 when it was on sale before, but as I clicked, the thing shut off for an update! :P
2B is (imo) a worse 2A (which I already have), and the 3M is a must with that ECM, so that just leaves the 3C (and X-5).

But, being you seem to have a 2B, 3C and 3M, I say keep them, run with it and elite all 3 before deciding what to sell or not.

I never like selling mechs, as you only get 4-12% of the purchase value you back. (You MIGHT get 45ish% if you sell all its stock gear and engine too) and the ammount of time it takes to get the C-Bills to buy it in the first place vs 60-90p for a Mech bay seems like a no brainer to me.

Combined with the improvements from eliting any given chasis, and you're not going to know exactly what it can do till then.

So I only need one more basic skill on the 2B (the 3500 xp one ^_^ ) and then I can get to the x-5

For the X-5 I thought about using this loadout:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b9a74bf8ffed26c

I am wondering though why people would take two srm2s over one srm4. It seems to be more heat efficient to use one srm4.

Should I go with a bigger engine? With the 300 I can straight up switch the lasers for one erppc but I could lower armor and use a bigger engine instead?

I am not sure if the 10 kph speed difference (going from a 300 to 320) would make a noticeable difference though.

SRM2s have a second less recycle time. Also, note that that hardpoint only had two tubes, so your SRM4 will shoot 2 volleys of 2 in succession.

Personally I'd go with Streaks and BAP with it, as its strengths seem to include light hunting, similar to the JR7-D.

Hmm if I want to keep the erppc 2 ssrm2s and bap would mean a lot less armor and probably heatsinks though wouldn't it?

Could you show me a build you would use? I'd appreciate it ^_^

edit

Like this?

With one ssmr2 and Bap, less ammo, I wonder how fast 100 missiles are emptied in a battle.

Would artemis be useful?

Well I gave up on MGs for now, going with the X-5 I'll take some (s)srms.

Though closing in with a cicada doesn't seem very difficult.

p.s.

I just looked up my k/d ratio in the 2b, it is at 0.12... with the 3m I at least had a ratio of 1.04
I don't know why I just don't like the 2b.

SSRM2s have a recycle time of 3.5s. If you have two of em, and 100 SSRMs, it will take (100/4)*3.5=87.5 seconds=1m 27.5s of constantly firing the SSRMs to run out of ammo.

Perhaps try something like this.

This Cicada is primarily built for skirmishing, along with the 2A and 2B, thought they can also do shoot n' scoot. The ERPPC and SSRMs in your build are kind of incongruous with each others' roles/range profiles, to be honest.

If you're good at heat management you can remove the heatsink in the engine and put another ton of SSRM ammo in there.

Also don't put ammo in the legs of a Cicada. The thing's like 90% leg, and everyone tries to leg fast movers anyway. It's hard to headshot, however.

Note that the BAP counters ECM, further cementing its role as a light hunter by disabling ECM lights so you can get a missile lock on them. This is an invaluable skill, I assure you.

Trade PPC for LPL. with max engine - good crit seeker.

I only have love for the Cicada sporting ECM. That said, the way things are now, if I had to grind it again (3C) I'd run the snot outta this one

The thing is I find myself really enjoying my erppc and medium laser on the 3m, I use the erppc in the beginning long range and then go close with both erppc and laser, that should work with the ssrm and erppc too shouldn't it?

I don't see how the erppc detracts from the ssrm just because I can start firing at long range.

So what about a loadout like this?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...13f1d790840a68c

p.s.

The 3c with MGs and erppc looks fun too but I think I will go with the X-5, I haven't bought a hero mech yet and that one tickles my fancy.

pps.

That 3c has 6.12 dps? How does that work, that isn't really effective dps is it?

Eh. To each his own, I suppose. I don't really have that much fun with the long-range game. But if it works, it works.

Yep well with a cicada with 4 medium lasers I am at k/d 0.12 so you see I am not made for pure close range fighting... ^_^

Both 6xMLAS builds.

So...
:L

But, the beauty of the game is that you can play it how you want to with the mechlab, so what really matters is if the build is effective to you.

If you get streaks on the CDA-X5 slap Artemis in there. Won't take any slots, or weight, but it will accelerate lock on times.

It does for SRMs and LRMs
However, missiles are all using the same architect right now. So Artemis affects Streaks for now, in terms of the lock on mechanism.

It's kind of an exploit that PGI knows exist, and isn't fixing since it requires some overhaul of how the missiles work.

It's not a "cheat" per se. However, the increase of maybe half a second isn't that big of a deal in the long run.
