Every. Single. Match.

I usually leave mine closed unless I know I am going to be launching missiles soon - but then, like the TAG-toggle (aka: SHOOT ME!) people want - I seem to be using them very differently than how most people do ;)

I tried to open and close them each time I wanted to shoot but it was too much hassle for the modest survivability. The delay was also very costly in a many instances where I came upon an enemy unexpectedly and would have hit him if my doors had been opened already but I missed due to the delay. The Cent in particular is so tanky already if you know how to twist and most good players know to shoot their legs.

Not each time I want to shoot - but If I know I am going to be unloading missiles for a while I open them - if I start to maneuver away, or someone starts to close in - I close them for the extra armor.

While people are really learning where to hit those tanky mechs - there are still a lot of people who just aim for the center and hope.

No on the Trebs, but most Kintaros have missile doors.

It is 10% damage reduction to the armor location. You can test it in Testing Grounds with the Catapults, specifically the A1. It has 40 armor on each arm. It would normally take four hits with an AC/10 or PPC in optimal range to completely strip the armor without damaging internals. It will take five hits on the A1's arms because you are only doing 9 damage per hit.

Moral? Keep those doors closed on the Kintaro's CT until you need to fire!

I've taken to not filling that CT missile slot. Then it never opens and I always get 10% damage reduction.

Does the 10% apply if there are no missiles slotted?

IE, can you still open doors if there is nothing behind them?

Fairly certain I've tested that on the Catapult. Not positive I have on the Kintaro.

10% DR is a big deal to the CT on most mechs. I just assumed I'd rather than that always on than risk having them open when I eat an 30 point AC/PPC hit there while firing.

Load up a catapult with nothing in the lauchers - step into the testing ground and try opening them.

If it toggles - the door is still there - and the door is what gives the boost.

I suggest the Catapult because in 3pv you can see the doors open and close. ;)

I have not tested this though. If someone wants to take a peek and see, I'd be interested to know. But it might be worth noting, that on catapults you only get the 10% reduction if the shot hits the door. Shots fired else were (sides or back) aren't affected. I am pretty sure of this.

I'm also not sure if this is true for other mechs, that only shots that hit the bay doors reduce the damage by 10%, rather than providing a flat 10% damage reduction over the entire hit box area for that component.

Nope nevermind.

It makes a distinctive sound too.

It's a feature.

Always funny to see a Cat stop in front of me and he's flapping his ears.
