53 teams, more then I expected. Good luck to all that make it.

Some people may wonder if it is all worth it. Why bother unless we've been practicing since the start like the top teams have? I say its not the destination that is enjoyable, its the journey. I'm having a blast training with the CI guys. Even if we're not one of the 32 selected, the time spent talking strategy and testing out new tactics has been enjoyable. That time practicing may not be enjoyable by all... to each their own as they say.

And for the odds... never know, a dark horse could take it. A single elimination allows for that very minor possibility.

Some people say watching the matches will be boring. I feel the same way about baseball, and yet it is watched by a ton of people. I caught the final match of the MW:O launch party and it was a nail bitter. Some really tense moments, including a last second cap prevention that won the game for Jager's team.

So, because the competitive community has taken it on themselves to set up some leagues, PGI shouldn't do anything for them?

They've already run like a half a dozen PUG tournaments. Catering one to the comp community isn't a bad thing.

Oh look at that, he accidentally forgot to quote the part of my post just a line or two before that where I say that EVERY segment of the community should have a place/role. Funny how you missed that part. But I guess it's ok now since I helped you out, right? I thought so.

That's true, anything is possible. The entire comp team you're up against might have their cats/dogs/pets of choice yank out the power cords to their rigs. Stranger things have happened.

As to the launch party, bad example. That was a collection of players tossed into teams, it was NOT premade teams that have been dropping together for over a year fighting pugs/one another.

PGI creating an event for one type of player is not a slight at other types of players. Especially when there have been numerous tournaments complete with prizes for solo only players in the past.

Team players have had to wait until the launch module to be able to have an official team tournament, so I think that it is about time. I do however regret that it will most likely be dominated by unoriginal builds (out of necessity).

I didn't forget to quote it. I didn't quote it because you say that comp teams' role should be community-created tournaments instead of official events from PGI, and I don't agree with that.

All I'm doing is pointing out what this tournament IS and is NOT. It's an eSport event, not some huge community building endeavor.

Additionally, lets put things in context. The solo event winners won like $3.48 (random number for effect, but it was something like that) worth of MC for grinding out hundreds of matches. Here we will have 15 people getting a Hero mech plus swag for 4 minutes of roflstomping noobs a few times in a row. My HOPE is that this is indicative that the prizes are improving in stature.

Wrong. #readingcomprehensionfail, nowhere did I make community run events an exclusionary role for the eSports peeps. Go back and read again, and this time, read what's there, not what you want to be there for arguments sake.

What we REALLY need is a CW system where each skill level and drop style has some part to play. CW /= eSports. That means the eSport crowd should have their role, the solo PUGs should have theirs, the casual units should have their place, etc. As it is, the eSports crowd already has RHoD, MCW, and so forth, and with the addition of the lobby system, those leagues can now function easily without the ridiculous sync-drop hoops to jump through that they used to have to deal with. But do we really need a giant Hero Mech giveaway to them on top of it to basically honk off the rest of the community who either do not have the time or inclination to put in hundreds or thousands of hours of meta-comp drops.

What exactly am I failing to comprehend here? You briefly mention CW having a space for each type of player, without any specifics, and you go on to say that giving away Hero 'Mechs to the winners of the tourney will "honk off the rest of the community" and question whether we "need it." And you allude to the point that comp players have already got community-run events, and combined with private lobbies that it should be good enough.

Edit: if you've got some point that I'm missing, maybe try to rephrase it so that the plebes like me can comprehend it.

It's both. They are not mutually exclusive.

You assumed that I was saying that since the eSport peeps already had community run events, that I thought that was their one and only role. But that's not my position. I want an overarching CW where each playstyle has it's role, IN ADDITION to whatever people are doing on the side.

But from how it's been presented to us, this tournament is certainly not both.

Okay, but we're not talking about CW here, we're talking about this one specific event.

I don't know what "we" are talking about, but "I" am talking, in this specific instance, in regards to a single portion of my post, about this tournament and how it fits into the....wait for it....wait for it.....community. My point is that stuff like this doesn't really build community in any meaningful sense. People are standing up on the mountain top holding this tournament up like some panacea that's rallying the community and getting everyone involved and rejuvenating the franchise, but.....that's not what this is. Trust me, I want this community re-energized and reinvigorated to infuse new life into the game. But this tournament isn't that. I'm trying to point out that people should just accept this for what it is: a niche eSport event. I'm not saying that's good or bad, just trying to define it's limits, because it certainly has its limits.

Just because it means nothing to you doesn't mean others feel the same way.

Or... they make a mistake in game, an up start team takes advantage of it, and a top tier is eliminated in round 1.

And still my point stands, baseball is boring to me yet plenty of people watch it. MW:O games by top tier teams maybe boring to you, but plenty of people may find it enjoyable.

To each their own.

I'm just curious, but are you participating in this tourney? Are you thinking your "sage advice" is actually meaningful here?

Our unit tried to get a team together, but there were too many conflicting events going on. Hopefully in the future they'll have the whole tourney in one 4-6 hour window, which will make scheduling a lot easier. Some members of our unit did join up in some other groups though, so we'll be cheering them on as they represent us in the tournament.

I'll definitely be watching the semi and final matches though, as they are streamed on Twitch.

That's nice, while you didn't answer the latter question. So, how many non-private matches have you played since the stat reset?

131. Last set of matches I played was Friday night, and plan on playing tonight. Why do you ask?

By the way, you didn't ask that question. I have no idea what point you are trying to make though.

For someone who seems to be "that excited" over everything PGI does, I'd thought you'd play more to "collect the achievements". Did the launch module not increase your play time?

I've been making videos (I'm sure you've seen my SuperLocust one, and if not I highly recommend watching it), which involves lots of private matches to record video and rendering time. The last short I made had 22 seconds of animation, which took over 40 hours to render. Oh, and there is a bug in Blender which caused the job to bomb out every 25 frames, so it had to be constantly restarted. My computer has been very busy with MWO related stuff, even if I haven't.

So yes, I'm as involved with MWO as I have ever been, have bought a gold mech, and am looking forward to the Clan launch so I can smite those chumps across the IS in my salvaged golden Puma.

How about you? How has your gaming been affected by the launch module?
