I miss the pre-armor buff period. Use to have to be careful or get splattered. Now, everything is a tank!

What is this buff you speak off.

before they doubled the armor in early closed beta. It was before either of us joined.

That was Alpha wasn't it? Before friends and family beta

also loved the choking engine sputter as you went down. Immersion. It was OP, apparently, so Paul nerfed it.

Wasn't that just the ammo cooking off? Which is gone to, why is that.

They doubled it before CB if I recall correctly.

no, pretty sure that was the engine being destroyed by the ammo (very dumb sound for explosions) but if I recall correctly, when I got the torso gutted on my AWS-8Q it would sputter like that, though it has been so long since I ran it, I cannot swear to that.

BTW... anyone else find ammo explosion deaths...not dramatic enough? I mean, I think there should be an explosion blasting open that section, and a very very loud BOOM, yo know?

Booo to the Counterstrikers!!!

Truthfully, I was more into Unreal Tournament than Quake but I did miss quite a few classes playing Quake 3 Arena.

Good to see another Unreal Tournamentor here :)

My most used mech is a JM6-S with 4xAC's and i've never even noticed any ammo explosions...in fact i'm not even sure it ever happens.

(Because this was fun to write)

TUTORIAL ONE. MAP: Forest Colony Snow

COMPUTER: Reactor: ONLINE. Sensors: ONLINE. Weapons: OFFLINE. Warning. Partial Systems Lockout Detected.

DEAD EYE: Good morning! Man, how about this dry heat, eh? Heh. Yeah, that's me in the big mech in front of you. I'm your babysitter today, kid. Someone paid me a fat wad of c-bills because they think you need a refresher course. I'm warning you, though. Shoot me once, kid, and I swear to god... Just don't do it.

COMPUTER: Gyros: ONLINE.

DEAD EYE: I just enabled your mech's gyros. This will let you turn your mech's upper torso around. Go ahead, give it a try. You'll notice your Centurion can only turn so far in any direction. You're a bipedal mech, not a tank. So get used to the range.

SYSTEM EVENT: Invert mouse popups

DEAD EYE: Now, we need... or rather, you need to do some walkin' today, kid, so I'm going to reenable your mech's mobility. Don't trip and fall over, all right? You have no idea how much it costs to repaint those things.

COMPUTER: Navigation: ONLINE.

SYSTEM EVENT: Movement tutorial pop-ups

DEAD EYE: There ya go, kid. Now you're moving around. You look like a drunken Lyran on Liberation Day, but some practice, and you'll be walking as straight as a toddler in no time.

COMPUTER: Nav Point Alpha: MARKED.

DEAD EYE: I just gave your system a new nav point. Head there. Once you get to Nav Alpha, we'll talk about giving you full control of your mech. I sure as hell ain't turning your weapons on while you're standing right in front of me...

SYSTEM EVENT: More movement tutorial

COMPUTER: Nav Point Alpha: REACHED.

DEAD EYE: All right, kid. If I'm going to give you full mech control, we'll need to cycle power. Do a full reboot. Go ahead and power down your mech.

SYSTEM EVENT: Power-off tutorial

DEAD EYE: There you go. You're powered down now, so if the enemy were close by, they wouldn't detect you. Normally, anyways. It's not a bad tactic, really. If half your mech is blown off and you want to get some prayer in before the hunters find you. Let's see here... okay. Your mech should be release. Go ahead and power up.

SYSTEM EVENT: Power-up tutorial

COMPUTER: Reactor: ONLINE. Sensors: ONLINE. Weapons: ONLINE. All systems nominal.

DEAD EYE: Good. You're up and running kid. I'm sending you another nav point. Head there. We got some work to do.

COMPUTER: Nav Point Beta: REACHED.

DEAD EYE: There should be an automated turret near your location. Don't worry, it's a medium laser turret. You're out of range. Go ahead and get a sensor lock on that turret now.

SYSTEM EVENT: Hit the R Key Tutorial

COMPUTER: New Target: ACQUIRED.

DEAD EYE: All right. Yeah, it's a medium laser turret. You'll notice the computer marked it as Target Alpha. The computer should automatically designate targets in the battlefield for you. It's a bad idea to fight alone, so this will help your allies know who it is you're trying to piss off. Now, your mech is equipped with Long Range Missiles. Hover your targetting reticle over the turret to lock on. Once you have tone, well... you know what to do.

SYSTEM EVENT: Targetting tutorial; launch LRM tutorial

COMPUTER: Enemy Target: DESTROYED

DEAD EYE: Nice work. Okay. Head to Nav Charlie. I see a couple more turrets on these satellite images, and they aren't going to shoot themselves.

COMPUTER: Nav Point Charlie: REACHED

DEAD EYE: Are you all right, kid? It looks like you took some missile fire from those turrets. I have no idea where they found some LRMs, but we can ask questions later. Try and keep to cover as best you can. You've got to get inside the minimum range of those LRMs.

SYSTEM EVENT: Minimum range tutorial; Keep to cover tutorial

DEAD EYE: All right, you're inside those LRM launcher's minimum range. Light'em up!

SYSTEM EVENT: Heat Management tutorial

DEAD EYE: There we go. Those launchers are toast. Good work, kid. We're done here. Go ahead and head back to base. I'm going to do one last sweep and make sure we're not missing anything.

Forgot one.

System Event: Vision Modes

Dead Eye: See that cave over there? Well it just so happens to be my favorite short cut. Once you move inside hit the N key to bring up your night vision. *chuckles* Can't have you stumbling around there in the dark now can we? *chuckles* I'll contact you again once you reach Nav Point XYZ on the other side.

Nav Point Reached

Dead Eye: Now that wasn't too spooky for you was it? There is another vision mode for thermals too, but we don't want you frying those delicate eyeballs.

Could use powered down mechs for lots of things too instead of turrets just like the training grounds.

A. Srms are useful.
B. You can boat weapons.

Repair And Rearm,

(I'm going to ignore the argument that "The best Free Players could use MaxTech and net Positive incomes all the time."

I NEVER lost a dime during the Repair and Re-Arm.. Not once, that was what my friends and I considered part of the Golden Era of MWO.. LOL

With that said, I still think it was a good idea to remove repair and rearm for the simple fact that new players were having a really tough time, and they had no trouble communicating this in the forums.

Some changes were good, some not so good. I'm still waiting to see how this all this thing comes together.

EDIT: Actually I did notice one match during their tweaking of the economy where I leveled an enemy team with high damage, 7 kills and made a really small amount of C-Bills, but I believe they either patched that real quick, or hot fixed it really quick. I do remember that for a short period of time the economy went full tard for a few days.

disagree with removal, but agree with the rest.

My outlook is that during the Cadet Phase, one doesn't have RnR, but you get a "dummy screen" so you can see what it WOULD have cost you. Basically treat the 25 (or more) Cadet Matches as simulator battles.

It was and it ended up leading to the splatcats which is why srm spread was nerfed. One group of them isn't so bad, 6 srm6s before ghost heat and that grouping was devastating.

And then it turned out that the SRM's splash damage was leading to them doing 15x their intended damage, and THAT was why SRM boats were so overpowered... splash was reduced, but their spread was never reduced, so they just became pretty crappy weapons.

WIth R&R I have an idea. Here is the jiff of it. You can either pay the repair bill(expensive as it may be) or wait a small time out(the more level 2 tech you have the longer the wait time.)
Here is a way to monetize it:
Have a tech crew boost so your timelimit is shorter since you have a expert team with you repairing your mech. 1, 3 or 7 day boosts increments.

Seems simple enough.

In that video, the Awesome most definitely did die from ammo explosion.. that's why it starts just taking damage in bursts at the end there.

You used to see it happen to other mechs too..

At one point, we asked Thomas about this, and he said that nothing was changed.. .But I don't remember my ammo cooking off like that in a VERY long time. I've died from ammo explosions since then, but it seems like it's just like, "Boom!" you died from ammo explosions. It's not the same kind of sequential series of explosions that it used to be.

No idea why they changed that aspect, since it was pretty awesome.

It's funny, all of the people remembering R& R fondly, when all I remember was people complaining that they won matches, survived ... and earned only 25,000 C-Bills because the cost of their ammo and repairs ate the profits. I think I even remember some coming closer to zero earnings.

I never minded R&R simply because I was a light pilot and only loaded one or two tons of ammo.

If they brought back R&R and made earnings what they were at that time, we'd still have large numbers of people complaining about low earnings. The popularity of ACs and LRMs would pretty much guarantee it.
