Driving these clan mechs is definitely going to take some skill to squeeze out an advantage.

Nope. That's a gameplay issue that has to trump lore. The BLING MECHS are actually going out of their way to step on the spirit of the game.
Then make a donation of $500, otherwise stop make a big deal about people financing a game you're playing for free.
Better yet, got find that "CEO" guy that demanded to see IGPs books to justify map cost, then go start a new company and make a MW game, I'll buy it.

I prefer the classic red paint for an Enzo, but I could probably get use to the gold chrome.

If they're like a Catapult, it's gonna be tough to put down, but not that hard.
If they're like a Thunderbolt, this thing is screwed.
And if it's like a Dragon...this thing is screwed.
And I see we're not gonna see a fix to the direction of the missile rack. Ah well.

That's right folks. We should ram and wreck that gold Enzo because it'll teach Ferrari a lesson; that they shouldn't sell cars like that.
Yes I've talked about shooting gold mechs but in the end it's pointless. That's why if I had a gold mech I'd change its color and wait a week or two before I played it.

I'm seriously thinking of plunking down for a Gold Khan package, mainly for all the Clan mechs - plus the "trophy". Either the Mad Cat or Masakari in gold would be my choice - but the color is just a bit "off".
Target or not, this is still fun game to play - despite all the frustrations.

I think people forget that. Not that it is an excuse for past missed deadlines or crummy communication, but it is fun. Well, when teammates actually work like a team instead of playing the thumbuptheirass-simulator. I mean, I would never purchase a gold mech, regardless of the price. So gaudy and unclanlike, but I am not going to hold that against anyone.
On that note, if I see a goldie on my team, they can rest assured I have them under watch in case a "friendly" decides to get proactive....

lmbo... yea someone has to pay for people that don't.. Its like welfare for mechwarriors... I don't get why so many people get mad how I spend my money... Do they think if no one pays there would be a game to play? Do the Free to play folks think the PGI is making a game for them out of the kindness of their hearts???? I don't mind spending my money to help keep things going...
I really enjoy this game and i am tired of hearing that the free to play players are mad cuz they didn't get what i got early for money... Most the Mechs go on sale for c-bill at some point.... So if your mad that you cant afford it go paint your Mech gold.. The basic orange will have to work for you and it can be bought for c-bills ...

You missed out those that can afford it but think its dumb
So true. I think the vast majority of people can 'afford' these. Buuuut for instance, would you rather get a top of the line gtx 780? Or a virtual gold item?
Just saying.

My statement:
BESIDES, I'm only one `Mech away from the whole f**king package. I got more value out of that than spending it on $500, or all at once. I'll stick to my plan, and finish said package when I get the non-Gold Masakari (War Hawk).

If you look at these threads, its mostly the same 50 people saying how much they will not buy a gold mech, but you all oversee the silent community.
Yes, there is a silent community and it makes up 95% or more of the playerbase.
Out of the 170 members of my unit only 3-4 visit the forums and I am the only one in the international forums.

Although, that isn't really a fair comparison. The gold mech is a 100% vanity item, while the gtx 780 has, at least for most gamers, actual practical use. Comparing how much food you can get for the price is even worse.
If you're pondering whether to get a vanity item or something with practical value (or something that's a real necessity), you can't truly afford vanity items. It's also fair to say that in this situation going for the vanity item might not be the smart choice. For some it may still be worth it, if someone gets their kicks from having a shiny mech in game, good for him/her.
Now, if you're pondering whether you're going to get a gold mech in the game or splurge 500 dollars extra on a nice brand watch, that's when you're in the right ballpark. Do you get this vanity item that you don't really need for anything, or do you get this other thing that you don't have real use for either? Both are really just used for showing off.
