I sit back down at a minute and a half into the battle and my team has already lost 4 mechs that fast. The enemy has lost none. So I go up to the dropship to maybe give my team some ECM and help engage the enemy. By the time I run up to the dropship we are down two more. So I figure OK, pull back to base and shut down and hide and when the enemy team finishes steamrolling these stupid PUGS I'm with and gets on our base, maybe I can pick one or two of them off with some surprise shots to the back. So I get on top of a building just behind the base and shut down and wait. It is not long before I am the only one left.
All of a sudden, some jackass on my team starts typing in chat, "spider powered down at such and such grid coordinates." and "OMG, he is worried about his K/D ratio, what a stupid dumbass", or "we could have won if you had helped us fight." Nevermind the fact that half my team got obliterated in the first two minutes of the match, or the time it takes to put on a pot of coffee. Nevermind that my little spider has no chance against 8-9 mechs that were left and the enemy team was going to win regardless of whether I took a few of them with me or not.
That being said, I have seen many pilots do that at the end of a match, run away and shut down on some far flung corner of the map. But my God, I was right by our base waiting for them to come to me, something I wish pugs would have the patience to do in a decent match up. Why the hell would I hide right next to where I KNOW they are gonna go?!
So I just wanted to say thanks. What a wonderful community this place is for a team oriented game.
P.S. Just incase anyone from PGI happens to stumble across this thread, please get rid of the K/D ratio, it is absolutely no indicator of how good or bad of a pilot you are. Especially if you're like me and have been playing since closed beta and have 40+ mechs all bought with cbills and mastered everything you have by fighting and dying in it as much as you can.
