Are extremely fun. Thx for the guys who I grouped with tonight, stock matches showed the potential that MWO does have when some of the silliness of unlimited customization is taken out of the equation.

All mechs were used, even ones that had flamers in their stock equipment and Dragons were surprisingly effective. You had to think about your heat output, when to use your weapons, only use ammo dependent weapons when you knew you would hit (30 AC/5 shots on a stock SHD, lolz).

edit: Oh, and Awesomes were, well, awesome (and scary as **** when you faced one)

Yup, PGI should make this an official mode. Call this hardcore mode or w/e, but this is fun.

I'll downgrade my Griffin Prime so I can use it as well. I'll probably farm so I can buy another Dragon or perhaps a Hunchy 4G

yeah, got the 1S from my PHX pack. Cost 1 million to revert it, and TBH, it was HORRIBLE in standard matches, so I never used it. My 1N and 3M are go.to mechs for me though, so I won't touch them.

The SHD 2D2 is actually not bad ;)

Even if it has an AC/5 with 1 ton of ammo, 2 SSRM2s with 1 ton of ammo, 1 LRM 5 with 1 ton and 2 medium lasers, it performs surprisingly well. In the match I used it, I did close to 400 dmg and was one of the biggest dmg dealer of the team. Its low armor is kind of a big drawback so make sure you're not getting focused, but with that kind of loadout, you can deal with pretty much anything.

armor has been scaring me, but I do well in the SHD-2H regularly. YLW is a little beast too. Finally redeemed my nerfed VTR-9B, and am thinking a CTF-4X is on the agenda.

I told you so's are usually reserved for talking to people who argued against or doubted your stand. At least for me, I always wanted stock matches as an option. Still want customizable Tier 1, also.

I still feel bad for missing out on this because it sounded like the most fun I'd have since installing this game for the first time.

If I wasn't so annoyed with tryhards atm who ruin this game for others I'd rather be making threads singing the praises of how players created a format more fun than PGI did, because they're too busy trying to monetize our misery.

I should buy another Centurion just for this game mode.

I keep seeing this come up that I honestly feel like PGI should implement it as an option for private matches, to have each mech be the stock loadout, and the ability to set which mechs are not allowed to be taken in private matches so the "stock" mechs that already come upgraded could be off that list.

Or even go full bore and have it be an official game type. That way I would be able to play in the 3025 setting, which is my favorite era of BattleTech.

I highly doubt PGI is going to put in a game mode that excludes a portion of their 'mechs, the champion 'mechs. Unless we're calling community built meta 'mechs "stock". Then it's just who brought more champions. Plus I don't think the community matchmaker could stand for any more segregation. Unless we're all fine with 10-20 minute searches to fight a match.

MWO shouldve been stock only from the start. Customization has always caused balance problems in not only Battletech but also every other Mechwarrior game. MWLL had the right idea by only allowing stock configurations and thats what MWO shouldve done too.

I tried. I really did... But a 3AM wake up makes StockMech Mondays... Impossible. ;) I will be off overtime soon enough!

Doesn't have to. Private match customization options with a stock-only toggle (or the ability to revert any mech to stock loadout) and a switch that sets allowable heat-sinks to single-only would be an excellent start.

Here's how I would do it:

When Configuring a mech, you could set a "temporary Stock" toggle on it, which would temporarily reset the mech to stock mode WITHOUT losing your custom configuration that it probably already has.

Then, you can take it into "Stock" matches. This would be a fast way to rule out cheaters - since they can only enter the match with the "stock" setting on, which automatically returns the mech to stock mode - and would encourage this nifty alternate format.
