Seen as there will be a need for a lot more maps in the future and there are quite a few dedicated and talented designers out there, I thought it would be a nice idea for those who can and want to, share their creations about maps or planets.

We may end up helping PGI to have a few ideas or even use a complete map with a few trims here and there.

So feel free to share some of your creations and we may be fighting for a piece of your artwork in the future.

Edit - Seen that there might be issues regarding pictures, we can all share ideas like Vanguard319' did on his post.
Spoiler

Cheers,

They already stated that they cannot use community created maps so easy.

It's about quality control, legal issues and performance, so they say.

So sorry to burst your dreams, but it's not going to happen.

Well about the legal issues, I believe everyone who posts a picture here is giving permission for PGI to use it as they will, as long as that helps us get more maps and PGI produce more.

The quality control and performance issues would be something they would have to deal with at their own way and pace.

It's a shame, since they can easily go around most stuff and people would most likely have fun and feel they were helping a bit more.
If I was able (skillful) to create a map or part of it or even a planet, I wouldn't mind sharing it here even knowing PGI would probably not use it, they could use bits and pieces (specific textures, ideas from terrain layout, just a certain grid, etc).

Well, I wont be closing this thread anyway and I invite the PGI staff to close it if they do not want users to share their work or they just wont be able to use any of the work.

Ok then, how about what ppl would like to see in a map then? I for one would love to see a large map set in and around a Castle Brian myself. (Think HPG, but larger and with more tunnels.) It would be an interesting map for the attack/defense mode.

Hey PGI, let us use community maps in private matches. Thanks!

I don't, relax.

I thank you for that info because I really had no idea of it.

But knowing those terms helps to get arguments to go around them and that's what I did in my logic ;)

I remember in a fairly old thread more than a year ago, some people made awesome maps, ready to be implemented. I have no idea what happened to the maps and the people making them, if I find them I'll link it here.

This would be a non-issue if PGIs Map publication wouldn't be so abyssmal. I can only hope that the maps take so long because they are somekind of templates, from whic PGI can then mass produce other maps. How Long have we been waiting for the "almost ready" jungle map?!
But it would be great fun to make MWO maps for the community.

The thought of having a jungle map where we are walking through the trees with no breakage bothers me. All of us running around blowing each other up and the jungle stays pristine...yuck.

I love the idea of a jungle map with bogs, trees so tall they dwarf an atlas in size, eerie hanging moss from said trees, ancient ruins perhaps with abbandoned digging equipment left by the excavation team. Two versions of the map could exist, one without inclimate weather and no flooding. The other with torrential downpours that make the use of thermal vision necessary and parts of the map could be flooded forcing you to navigate around.

Allow people to use community-created maps in private matches. Boom. Done. Not official, people get to try them out, the community gets new maps to play on, the more talented map-makers get to showcase their work, maybe the best maps get mined and picked up by PGI.

You make it sound so trivial to implement...

What priorities should they put on the backburner while they implement this?

I believe they are or were working on some destroyable terrain, more specifically trees, lamp posts that can be knocked over. While it is nowhere close to what we all want it is something.. if we get it that is. We would all love if they had created a map editor for us. We would all like to see more variety and I am hoping that they have something up there sleeve for both Clan and stage 1 of CW. Some of my thoughts were:

1. Alter current maps. Move and remove current landmarks and effects on maps. Both day and night versions for all maps.
2. Randomize mech starting locations. Have several start location options so enemy does not follow same set paths.
3. Randomize base and cap points. Remove them from mini map until spotted.

Anything, honestly. Do you want to play CW on 8 maps? I don't. This game needs a heavy influx of maps very quickly. New maps should be right up there with the programming for CW.

Also, do you really think the guys making the maps are the same guys rigging models, programming, working on PR, etc? You realize this industry has specialists, yes?

Everyone is working on Clan stuff. Then hopefully CW. Yes, I'd rather have CW with the maps we have than have them spend time creating a system to allow player created maps that are only used in private matches and not CW.

So you're saying that you want the map specialists working on...Clan stuff. Like...Clan maps?
