On topic... meh like the Summoner, could careless about the hand job.

You can make it as pretty as you want

You can make it as limited as you want

It's still an insult to the community that you would charge as much as you do for nothing more then a paint job

What was insulting was the original selling slogan of only the most "loyal" backers would buy one... and that it was $500 for a single mech at the time.

I am a part of the community and I am not offended.

I love PGI but not that much. I pay PGI but not that much. Some people do, and the dev gives them an option. I'm fine with that.

It's not like you're gonna ever pay for it.

See? This is the life of F2P game devs! You release paid gameplay items, people b*tch about it (legitimately tho). You release paid non-gameplay items, people still b*tch about it.

More like poor people whine tho.

***

I like how its right arm is basically stripped right from a TimberWolf. Modular Clan Tech FTW *not sarcasm*. Also the leg model is freaking gorgeous.

Friend I'm annoyed and I'm sure as heck not poor... I sure as heck won't be buying one or two of my favorites because of where the game is at... i.e. so far behind I expect to see CW in 2017 if they don't fail 1st.

They never once called the price "low" :)

I do like the Sommoner's look. Never gonna spend $500.00 on a skin for a game however.

I could see metallic skins(copper, silver, gold, etc) being premium colors for the game and going for maybe $10-$20 bucks, but $500 is flat out ridiculous.

View PostHayato1983, on 13 May 2014 - 04:09 PM, said:

Yeah, Its simply too much for a skin. Can see a 10-20 tag reasonable.

I wish PGI would stop showing off 'Mechs no one is going to buy. Unless, of course, they're three things: Desperate, Stupid, or just plain insane to the point where even Dr. Freud would declare them psychotic beyond all reason. Cause there's no way I'm shelling out $500 for something that I'll probably never use.

So PGI, PLEASE STOP SHOWING THESE OFF. Thank you.

You guys are completely missing the point of this: It's not about 'value' at all. It's a fund raiser.
If you don't want to support this fundraiser then I kindly ask you not to.

MechWarrior has been one of my four favorite games since 1998, and I've played a lot of games.
I support the Gold Khan Mech campaign simply because I want to assist PGI by providing some more funding for them to work with in improving MWO.
I want to see the MechWarrior series continue on and currently the incarnation is MWO.

I listen to the podcasts, I view the YouTube interviews with the Devs, and I read quite a bit in these forums and though there are a million complaints and the game isn't perfect (especially regarding the timeline and I think they should reset the clock back to 3048), I'm patient.

I had some extra money saved up and all my bills were paid so though I know it's extremely overpriced I decided to get one.
Again, this is because I love the MechWarrior games.

I always have. I always will.

With each reveal, the thread fills less quickly and with more and more directly angry posts. I suspect they are showing us the mechs with the gold reveal two days after to put off when they have to show us real things like what the bonus mod is and other details. We are being fed but not the stuff we want or need and its making the community angry. That is probably why we haven't started on Social Reward 3 and why we wont make it to 4 if we do finish 3. The main reason I still log on to these forums is cause I'm looking for that info release, and I am sure many others are too. And they get pissed cause it just another photo release, not anything we really want or what we need to boost the sales.

I too once loved the Mechwarrior games. I loved them so much that it was almost all I played back in the day, I've probably tried nearly every possible build in MW3 (and often laughed at the REALLY bad ones if I actually killed anything in them). Then Mechwarrior 4 happened. I'm not sure why, but I hated it. Then there was a glimmer of hope with Living Legends. Then Online happened, and LL got shut down as a direct result (say what you want, that was the real reason). I wanted to like MWO. I still want to like it. But with all the wrong balance, gameplay, monetization and design decisions that have been made, I just can't.

And yet, I'm still throwing money at it hoping the clans will somehow magically fix everything (they won't - they've even said as much, maybe not directly, but implied by the fact that they nowhere in the clan announcement did they say "we're rebuilding the game from the ground up to make a game that's not world of walking tanks"). It's funny what hope can do to a person.

I'm buying the Warhawk pack. I have not once, nor will I ever consider the gold packs. Back when they were first announced (and had ONLY the ONE gold mech) they were a joke (probably literally at first until they realized people would buy them), even now that they're essentially the $240 Warhawk pack (what if you didn't want it, or only want a cheaper pack? just saying) and an extra $260 for the gold skin, they're still a joke. I also didn't see any way to 'upgrade' your existing pre-order to the gold pack, so I guess you have to spend up to $740 (or contact support, as insane as that sounds) if you already bought one but later decided you want a gold mech?

This game should just shut down, finish things they've promised before closed beta even started, and then go to Kickstarter. Kickstarter users love throwing hundreds, if not thousands of dollars at exclusive extras. Heck, throw in a couple $5,000 packs that give you everything the game will ever have to offer (though that would lose profits in about ten years, wouldn't it? the shareholders would never allow that to happen) and list you as an 'executive producer' in the credits, I guarantee people will buy them. I've always found this funny about that sort of crowdfunding bonus, but don't producers usually expect a return on their investment when it's something that is being used for profit? Shouldn't they be called "legendary donors" or something? How about "Foolish Philanthropist"? That's more fitting.

For those complaining about the green "reflection" (personally I like it):

"Gold is so malleable that it can be beaten into gold leaf less than 100 nm thick, revealing a bluish-green color when light is transmitted through it. Gold reflects yellow and red, but not blue or blue-green. The direct transmission of light through a metal in the absence of reflection is observed only in rare instances." - http://www.webexhibi...sofcolor/9.html

Not to beat a dead horse, but you are misunderstanding the effect this is describing if you are quoting this to add credence to the green reflections we see in these texture maps. Light passing through the extremely thin and delicate gold metal leaf (NOT reflecting off the surface) will be comprised of blues and greens. The reds and yellows that cannot pass through it (and are thus reflected back into our eyes are the reds and yellows of (Au) gold).

The *only* time you will see blues and greens is if you were in a dark room and had this very thin piece of gold leaf cover the lens of a flash light, then you will be shining a blue-green light, but the second you expose it to a secondary light source, that light will bounce reds and yellows off the surface and into our eyes and that's what color the gold leaf itself will be. So unless your mech is a giant light bulb (Flashman?) wrapped in very thin gold leaf in a dark environment without additional light sources, you will not see greens and blues from this metal, reflected or transmitted.

Now brass on the other hand behaves exactly like what we see here and reflects greens and yellows naturally.

*This of course assumes the full range of the visible light spectrum is actually available to be reflected/absorbed/transmitted. Obviously if green/blue light is sufficiently dominant, only a percentage of that light can pass through or be absorbed with the remainder reflected within the range of values available, i.e.: Green light source = green gold along with green everything else that we can see.

[Redacted]

I too was very dissapointed by MW4 though MW4:Mercenaries was somewhat fun in that it tried pretty hard to copy MW2: Mercenaries, which was totally awesome.
That's all I agreed with in your rant post.

You strike me as an oxymoron [Redacted] because you state, "This game should just shut down" yet you purchased the Warhawk pack?
Then you go and call people who want to fund the game (or other games as well), "Foolish Philanthropists."
You strike me as a "Free-to-Play" freedome fighter. Why don't you just pinch your pennies, buy everything in MWO with C-bills only? You might actually come off as legitimate if you did that :)
Honeslty though, glad you're "supporting" a game you don't believe in with your purchase because I happen to like it a lot.

HeroForHire, I would gently point out that PGI dont care if you defend them, so you could probably make your point without resorting to childish backhands. You mention bill paying, so im going to assume your an adult, I hope in the real world you are nicer than that.

That said , Is this money grab obnoxious? God yes!, is it the way the video game industry has evolved? God yes! and you have the very first whales to thank, for making it the viable model it is today, stupid voting with your wallet society!

I think where a lot of rage comes from here is that after all this time what we have is still in essence a nuts and bolts deathmatch shooter, with better than average mechanics and held together with a popular franchise name. For me I cant help but wonder, how far is the franchise name going to keep this game going considering the glacial pace of development?

Hawken for all its faults has a smaller fan base, lacks the solid franchise and the mechs look like someone tipped over their mechano set, but every 2 months when I log back into it I see changes...

But then as I said I have a ****** fence post I am more a neckbeard pen and paper Battletech gamer so for me this game is like what the warhammer 40k games are to the table top enthusiasts, a nice aside im not invested enough to rage (Talon Pack ftw).

But I would point out to the the white knights unless you are 100% happy with this game let people have their rants cause as incoherent as some of them are (I am looking at you Kassatsu you cant pay the same as a low income families food budget for a month and then declare you want the game dead!) you need them, if not devs will think everything they are doing is fine...

And its not fine, dissatisfaction is endemic to everything, but the level I see is tipping to the other side of the spectrum...

Just not seeing a value there.

Twofold my binary friend :

First because its enabling them, for every person that buys this it’s another check in the “we can do this crap box” as I said above that box is already checked enough times that it can’t be stopped now.

Second do you remember when gold skins were an award for foaming at the mouth grinding to 100% completion or some such? In the old days we were all equal we all could be golden if we wanted.

Now it’s no longer “we all paid the same price now it’s down to our skill”. Now the gaming world is like the real world that we play to escape, the struggle for riches is uneven and now it has invaded our beloved escapism!!

To make matters worse we are told things like “only the most loyal supporters will have these” so now someone who is rich and plays 30 minutes a week between ignoring his wife and closing orphanages, is MORE loyal than a poor Johnny who can afford to only pay $20 and has had a tattoo of a Madcat!

( Edit: Cannot stress enough I am not johnny!)

Lennin would be spinning in his grave… or glass box... whatever they got him in...

The key is the last part of your post. It's specular lighting. In a map where the light source is blue green, everything is going to take a blue green tint, which is exactly what we're seeing.

One of the most profound things ever said on these forums. That statement does pertain to everything, not just MWO. :)
