I think a lot of people at this point dislike the current UI 2.0 for mech building compared to the original superior method, which Smurfy used and improved to the point of perfection. The problems with the UI 2.0 for mech building is:

#1 Too many menus to do simple build tasks.

UI 2.0 (3 steps)
To add a PPC to my BNC-3E, I have to remember that my Right Torso has Energy Weapons
-I have to select Right Torso
-I have to select Energy Weapons
-I have to look at a list that is NOT alphabetically sorted for weapon names and try to find a Large Laser in giant icons instead of a simple to use LIST.

Smurfy (2 steps)
To add a PPC to my BNC-3E, I see all of my energy slots in one view
-I can select to see only energy weapons
-I then see an alphabetically ordered list of weapons and I can easilly find my PPC that I drag to my mech

#2 New mechs require looking all over for the hard points

UI 2.0
For new mech if I don't know all of the weapon slots, I would have to go through 6 potential weapon slots OR click the Mech Details button to see the overall mech view and remember again to select the right area for that weapon.

I also have to know the hieroglyphic that your UI designer chose for what hard point. Is the red target an ecm module, ams or laser? Does the red lightning bolt mean ecm or BAP? What in the heck does all of their hieroglphyics mean, why could you guys not at least put the first letter E= energy, M=missile, and B= ballistic to at least help a player out?

Smurfy
I look at Smurfy and I see all of my weapon slots immediately

#3 Useful mech weapon information

UI 2.0
If I select my mech and hover the mouse over it in mech lab, I get a pop up of poorly designed graphs and charts with images of information on torso turn and arm radius. If I then select the mech, on the lower right I get some information that is moderately useful for armor, heat management and if I used my tonnage

Smurfy
I immediately see relevant information to my build on the left in their creator. They even go so far to have a weapons lab that lets me adjust how often I fire to see my DPS and a useful chart for damage decrease due to range.

Conclusion:
How much money would your player base have to Bribe Piranha to provide this basic user interface package? Would you guys take a Kickstarter to fix UI 2.0 so that it offers at least 80% of the functionality that a fan based site (Smurfy) was able to put together?

If Piranha lacks the coding ability to create basic Smurfy functionality, does Piranha have the ability to take in a link from Smurfy for mech build out and then immediately build your mech based on that link? Again, how much money would it cost? Note, I would be quite happy if this was only available through Priority Time or whatever method your CFO decides we should pay to get a BASIC MECH BUILDER that we had at one time.

If the problem isn't money but certain members of Piranha team that doesn't want to admit they released a poor product, would they be willing to code in a Questionaire on log in to get feed back from the community. After all, their jobs rely in part on the financial success of MWO and a poor mech builder will kill new player retention.

I believe your community is so disgusted at this point with UI 2.0 for mech building that they honestly would pay for a kickstarter or just leave. Star Citizen falls into the same user demographic (old franchise vehicle based combat) and frankly I have a feeling they have the ability to give their player base what they want based on numbers and not their own team members egos and it shows.

Add to that the most simple of fixes still not even touched:

Font size - it affects many players, is basically simple to fix (except of course they seriously gimped the code limiting visual elements to fixed sizes) and still hasn't been touched.

That's the thing I can believe even less than the lack of a good mech lab.

(nothing new in this patch, btw)

Yeah sure, giving them money to fix something they broke on their own against overwhelming advice from the community.
Would you pay a mechanic for fixing your car after he let it fall from the workshop hoist? Certainly not.

Is that an Andy Warhol tribute to mech engines?

I would loose my mind if I logged in one day and Waldo was in one of those blocks!

SO MUCH WASTED SPACE!!!

oh wait: UI is designed for 1024x768...

If you are designing a UI to fit such a small screen/resolution, please tell me why you have to have 7 columns of useless engine pictures!?

Smurfy works PERFECT with absolutely zero picture representation and ONE column list. You can at least make it 1/10th the current size, in the corner and shrink everything down to fit USEFUL information!

They had the perfect ease of use UI for building mechs before and then they went to UI 2.0, which screwed the user base. No one wants to have to scan through tons of useless images and hieroglyphic style icons. Give everyone a simple to use interface like we had before for at least the mech building portion. Do whatever you want for the rest of the UI,

Not to mention the dumby List/Grid icons still present on the windows. Would that seriously take THIS LONG to put into the UI.

I knew I shouldn't have gotten excited when they mentioned UI fixes for this patch. They are spread far too thin across all of their projects. I understand there were some hickups with MM, but we need to see concentrated efforts to make these things better. FINISH IT and THEN move on. I'd be happy with delaying their proposed schedule if it meant they can attack one thing at a time, make it near perfect, and move to the next project. We can already assume they can't meet the current scheduled dates and time-frames considering every release so far has gone horribly.

A simple paper doll system of a mech and then USABLE items listed on the side that you just plug and drop

or 1.0

This current system is a dogs breakfast

The problem is, how do you get PGI to recognize this deficiency? Because right now they seem pretty damn happy with what they put out. If they put out a simple surveymonkey to everyone when they logged in and got feedback, I have a feeling they would decide to fix this mess of a mech building UI.

I like Smurfy, but its getting ridiculous that they haven't realized the error of their ways and fix this mess.

1. beep beepbeep beepbeep beepbeep beepbeep beepbeep beep
2. no summary of # of DHS or crit slots
3. confirmation that you confirm that the thing you did was successful (like redeeming a achievement. I would assume an unsuccessful one would be a crash so why tell me?)

I like how you have to confirm to quit the game, and then confirm again that you really want to quit the game. Its almost as if it he coder never got the idea that NO means NO.

They did do a survey, it was the public test of the U.I. The feedback for a smurfy like system was unanimous. And yet, here we are.

Canned coders don't say no.
