I left for 5 months, which during that time I heavily indulged in War Thunder and World of Tanks, came back in May to assess the situation before June 17, whether its worth to plug over $200 for the Clan sets. I could afford it really, retired and owning a set of apartments.
First thing first.
1. I plugged a considerable sum of money in the game, with at least six hero mechs (just bought Malinche recently as well), the Project Phoenix and Saber packs. Not to mention money to buy bays and camouflage,
2. Don't really care much about Star Citizen, although I look forward to it.
3. I am not as hanged up in Community Warfare, I don't think anyone could beat what FromSoftware (Dark Souls creators) ever did for Chromehounds and Armored Core V/Verdict Day.
Now what I see:
1. Same old, same old, abuse of lights, LRMs and assaults, stupid Gauss nerf and ghost heat. Failure to uphold greater Risk = greater Reward principle.
2. The maps still suck. Muddy graphics, bad design. This is the only game I ever had to squint my eyes on. I didn't need to do that on World of Tanks and War Thunder despite such smaller targets on these games. The muddiness seems to have grown first due to stained glass. Also feet continue to get stuck in various places like River City. The maps, except for some, are poorly concieved for mech combat, being too small relative to mech size. Brawls tend to create mobs, as a result, people get far too often in the way. Worsening the map situation is the random drops. I love seeing a large assembly of mechs march out to battle, as it gives an epic feeling. Now teams seem to get isolated quicker (random drop on Alpine the worst), bad lances gets wiped out, stomp occuring more common. This setup seems even worst for PUGs.
3. When connected, the game is actually great, and for a game of this nature, MWO is a bit lag resistant and tolerable. However, the game is prone to disconnections. The game disconnects even more than it was a year ago. Unlike World of Tanks, there is no way to return to the same game once your are disconnected. While World of Tanks and War Thunder can be quite laggy, they keep you connected to the game like Super Glue. Not only do I get disconnected from MWO, sometimes I find it hard to login back. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, client repair tool and it still happens.
4. The new lobby UI totally sucks. This is the worst management UI I have yet seen in a game. In contrast, WoT and WT have clean, friendly and visually appealing management UIs. Once login, the UI seems to sync eternally, slow and lags in response. Things drag and don't seem to get done. A lot of my disconnections occur in the UI area.
5. MWO boasts being a "thinking shooter". Honestly I feel World of Tanks and War Thunder Ground Forces do a much better job of being a thinking shooter. People there seem much more concerned with tactics and team play than being a meta player, though I will say MWO has a much more polite player community.
My conclusion now is that I won't spend money on the Clan sets. Despite thousands of drops, the next consideration now is whether I shall uinstall the client now, permanently.
