Well it lookse like we are getting the S variant. Now the question for me is are they going to leave on the jump jets? If so I will probably get the mech. Wish they would let us know for sure.
Alt. Config. S A highly maneuverable urban combat configuration of the Timber Wolf, the S mounts five jump jets, allowing it to jump up to one hundred and fifty meters. To offset the inaccuracy from using jump jets, the S configuration is armed with a Large Pulse Laser backed up by two Medium Pulse Lasers. The S configuration also carries four SRM-6 launchers and two Machine Guns, making it a deadly close combat fighter.

they have kept every other mech as true to TT as possible in configuration, why would it change now?

Thank you. This is what I have been saying. People see the oodles of hard points and forget you still need to fight basic arithmetic. Small pod space allotments limits our payload if we go ballistics. Not so much with energy and missile, however.

Not entirely true. The stock configuration of the S has 1 JJ in the CT, 2 in each side torso. The earlier Dev post stated that JJ will be treated as hardwired IIRC. I need to double check that source. At least in the case of the Summoner, regardless of anything, they are considered fixed equipment. It might not be in the Timber Wolf S.

I'm OK with that. Because I have enough space to mount 3 MG by mounting those torso on my Prime Core. Along with 2 LRM15, 2 ER large laser, and 2 er mlaser. And JJs. Not the metahumpers dream, I know, but ask me if I care?

Jump capable, 81 kph (89 with speed tweak) max armored heavy mech with the possibility (when using the right components) of 3 ballistic,, 4 missile and 4 energy. Heck, I'm even thinking 4 Mpulse, 3 MG and 4 SSRM2 racks would make for a NASTY infighter.

Oh Summoner, with your 3 measly hard points and non-exclusive JJs, why does PGI hate you so? It will be the Thunderbolt all over again.

.

Actually, the D variant that we are getting has a bunch of hard points, all in the arms and side torso's so you can have more than just three HPs on your prime. The lack of pod space is going to be the killer.

Absolutely. I like how the limits force pilots to think a little outside the 2 AC5/2 PPC combo box a bit. Once you break away from that, it allows exploration of alternative builds.

Edit: Did a tonnage derp.

heck, just built it in remlab..... has room for 20 DHS.... should be enough to mostly tame 4 MPulse, and the SSRMs. 50+ alpha on a fast striker? I'm liking the possibility.

Yep. Only reason why I went past 21 dubs in my 2x ERPPC config is I plan on shooting them until my arms melt off from the inside. That, and I want to be able to actually use the backup ERMLas if I need to. >_>

There was already a varient of one mech that was supposed to have jump jets where it was even listed on MWO with jump jets but then removed I think. Could find it but to sleepy B)

Wasn't that the La Malinche? In that case, it was a non-canon loadout to begin with.

The poor Thor. The Madcat-S makes it so obsolete. All it had going for it was jumpjets. But now that the Madcat-S has both jumpjets AND full armor theres no reason to ever touch the Thor. I like how PGI still doesnt think these things through.

Apart from the fact that they're two totally different looking mechs. It's all personal preference.

Every mech has something that is heavier and can do it better, it's all a matter of subjectve taste.

Shadow Hawk, Jagermech, Dragon Slayer, Ember, Misery, and some others are the best at what they do, with no one that can outclass them at it.

PS: "Subjective taste" doesn't win battles, as sad as it is to say. Unless, of course, your subjective taste just so happens to be for the effective mechs (like me and my Shadow Hawks! B) ).

it will make for a brutal missile boat platform, one of the variants coming with 5 missile hardpoints

And the D carries dual AMS and a targeting computer, and you can likely build the A (Gauss sniper) and C (Brawler) from mixing hardpoints. I think It'll find it's niche.

Looking forward to the 5 missile hardpoint Summoners especially after the hit reg. fixes.

Hitboxes will also have something to say about this.
