Dire Wolf prime as you described...
Left arm 4 energy, 1 ballistic
2 ER Large Lasers LArm
2 Medium Pulse Lasers LArm
1 Ultra AC/5 LAarm

Right arm 4 energy, 1 ballistic
2 ER Large Lasers RArm
2 Medium Pulse Lasers RArm
1 Ultra AC/5 RArm

You could just take out all 8 energy and replace the UAC/5s with UAC/20s. It'll automatically remove the lower arm actuator out both arms, so Yen Lo Wang style you won't be able to aim left or right with the arms (it'll be like a Jagermech).

Or, for better arm speed...
You could take the Dire Wolf "B config Right Arm" and replace your right arm with it.
It comes with 1 ballistic slot. Nothing else. This will make your arm movements MUCH faster.

What if you wanted missiles? Well obviously in both of the above cases there's no missiles for the arms. But you really, really, really want missiles in the arms!

Well okay then! But if you want missiles in the arms, you need Dire Wolf C config's left and right arms, which come with 1 energy and 1 missile each.

Just pretend it's Hardpoints with Legos. Snap on or snap off what you want.

One thing that would interest me and I`m hoping teh announced posts will clarify it:

If having more hardpoints decreases agility, and less increases it, wouldn`t it make sense to sell hardpointless pods as well, or allow people to run around simply without an entire arm?

Clan weapons can be changed, the pods themselves are also interchangeable. There are a few weapons that are fixed and can never be removed, such as the flamer in the Adder, and the MGs int he Madcat.

Some mechs come with side torsos, heads, etc. that don't have weapons.
The Adder is a perfect example the Prime config has no side torso weapons.
But other configs (variants) do.
Whether or not there's arms with no weapons is another story that I don't know about.
