all right.. I might as well ask, seeing i am close to the cash after a long weekend of major play...

The Orion's.. they do seem to have some interesting load outs, Big ballistics slot, or 2 on one of um, then a bunch of missiles, and a couple energy slots. It looks pretty big too, so much more assault like?

Does it kinda play like a missile based Cataphract? Sorta slow, lumbering, dishing out damage?

,
So far, i have raven, HBK, thunderbolt, catapult, and cataphracts X 3, with a single atlas, jager and dragon, and the freebie Cent.. out of those 4, the dragon is the only one i have really used in 100+ games. Maybe there is a slot in my bay for an orion.. I just sorta wonder if the one i was leaning towards, the Cent's are just to similar to my HBK's.. Or do ya think they is enough of a difference to warrant the different game play.

at this point in time, i think getting mechs that have different game play might be a good thing.... Like for instance, commando's have been calling my name cause they are just so darn cute! (though after cursing at spiders for so long, trying the one with 4 machine guns does sound like fun) Basically that is what i was thinking about with going for a light mech next.

But then again, with the state or SRM's maybe putting off that big brawler till that is fixed might be worth it yes? Ohh why is this so hard to make a decision, so many great mechs and so little time!

An XL 300 is a great standard engine along with an XL 255.

I've found the XL 300 to be of great use in my Jenners, Cicadas and Highlanders and the XL 255 with my Spider 5D, Cataphract 4X and my Jagers.

Buy one as soon as you can ^_^

The plan is to get the STK- M for the 255 XL, and i'm going to get a XL-275 from one of the 55 ton mechs.. I am really leaning towards the Wolverine.. i like the extra torso twist over the shadow hawk, and it has a ballistics varmint, unlike the griffin. the one thing that is making me lean towards the shadow hawk, is the 3B version.. could be fun, sorta like the 4G, with an extra 5 tons to play with.

but for now.. i just earned the cash for the XL-300... Maybe i should just grab the cent, like ya all recommended.. Think i'll sleep on it :(

I'm going to put in a belated vote for the Treb - a horribly underrated mech, simply because (I think, anyway) that everyone's forgotten what they're supposed to do.

In the fluff, a Trebuchet was built to support Centurions - always working as a team. The Centurion brought all the in-your-face guns, while the Trebuchet brought all the softening weaponry, essentially becoming greater than the sum of the parts of both mechs. In MWO, the Treb is the best support chassis I've found yet - if youre running with something you can match in speed, the sheer weight of your firepower will absolutely change the dynamic.

A Treb-7k, built to brawl, running with a CEN-YLW or 9D, can - as a team - reduce any mech they encounter to rubble in a matter of seconds (running with my peeps in C4? Our YLW & 7K combo dropped /eight enemy mechs/ in four minutes. It was utterly gross.) A treb 5J engages, ideally, at 200m - mine carries an LRM 15 and 5ML with ML range extenders - and, sitting off of a Centurion, Hunchback, or even an Atlas, a couple hundred meters away? Opens up enemy mechs like a can opener on steroids.

The Griffon is a better mech if you're lone-wolfing your way through all fights - it has the same weapon mix, similar hardpoints, jumpjets, and equivelent speed. The Shadow Hawk seems much the same... except neither one really is. The griffon can be neutered by someone who knows what to target, shadowhawks are solid, but don't have the same weapon mixes... the treb can take a remarkable beating, has hardpoints dispersed throughout the chassis, and is absolutely made to support other mechs in a way those other chassis are not.

Being a treb pilot means that you learn how to be a good buddy. As mentioned earlier - when a Treb partners up with another mech, it's invariably something greater than the sum of the two mechs.

CTF-3D would loot you the XL 280, which is slightly better than the XL 275, though 275 has it's uses within some lights like the RVN-2X/4X. Only if you go after cataphracts though.

Griffin is mostly missiles with some energy, and Wolverine is mostly all around type mechs (especially 6R.) The K variants are more based off lasers. Shadow Hawk while I do recommend, it's very based off of missiles and ballistics with some energy in the middle, and also if you are not used to enough torso twisting, you'd need to get use to that.

Hope I helped. ;)

Ah, ok. Then while you get XL 275 just remember XL 280 is a straight on buff though isn't usable in a few minor cases (RVN-2X/4X as mentioned before). I agree on the HBK, it truly is a solid mech. :D
