Yup your solution works out well too. Only complaint I have is that it doesn't increase the amount of tonnage necessary to jump effectively, but otherwise it's good.

well, i think peripherally it might.... but it requires the fall damage machnic too.

I think needing to jump higher to get the window will cause most to have to add at least 1 more JJ. But the kicker is, to have enough thrust left to not damage yourself landing from the extra height, now you need even more thrust/jj.

I may be simplifying it a bit though, or not thinking some of the side aspects through as much as I am thinking though, hence my getting input from folks like you and McGral and such. Been trying to get it force fed to Paul.... might try ambushing Phil over at NGNG next instead.....

TBH, I think jump-sniping adds something to the game. It's another playstyle that people can choose, and having options is always a good thing. It sounds like folks want to completely disable the ability to jump-snipe, and I think that would be a shame. I don't poptart that much, myself, but I'm okay with it being in the game as long as there's no way to pre-aim your weapons over an obstacle (I'm looking at you, 3PV!).

I agree, hence my proposed solution to keep it in the game, yet make it a bit less overbearing.

Its the maps that contribute to this problem. Every single map is full of hills and ridges. Not just pop tarting but getting sick of the whole pop over hill shoot pop back behind hill game-play. This isn't Ground troop simulator 2014.

They really need to start making urban area flat maps with no hills or elevations. Just a city center with tall buildings.

Not to mention the terrible map geometry and invisible walls that will block your shot unless you fully expose yourself in plain view.

I actually think this contributes to the jump sniping problem in more ways than people think, because it allows people to clear the invisible walls without risk of hitting invisible geometry and/or exposing themselves longer than necessary to ensure a clean shot.

Take for example the upper level of HPG. Without jump jets, you literally need to fully expose yourself to the enemy in order to get a clear shot. Otherwise you'll hit some invisible hitbox that's waist high.

PGI cant touch poptarting or the COD kiddies will complain they cant do 360 degree no scope mid air shots. What do you mean that's not Battletech? Whats that?

I think I have it worst than most people. I don't know if its my graphics card, driver settings, or both, but the entire geometry of the map is constantly warping. I mean hills literally constantly change shape as you walk toward them.

My neighbor was playing last night and it became clear to me how much we have to get used to in this game because they were constantly shooting at invisible walls and not hitting anything.

Low graphic settings also have invisible obstacles we can get stuck on, but can't even see.

Along with the invisible hills, it can get pretty annoying.

What's interesting is that Sniping has nothing to do with Battletech - if people want to see a mech sniper I suggest checking out Eva or one of other mech animes where a giant robot is actually using a sniper rifle. Jump Jets in Battletech were primarily used for bypassing terrain, death from above, getting to higher elevation or getting into a flanking (rear) position on an enemy mech. Jumping also made it harder for the attacker to land a hit (+3 modifier). So lets say the enemy is at long range (+4) and he moved a total of 5 hexes (+2). Will go with a modifier of 9 for now - even though we haven't even looked at terrain, the mechs heat level, and other factors. So that pilot in the jumping mech - lets say he's the elite of the elite with a gunnery skill of 0. He would only have 25% chance of landing that shot. The BT novels also reflect this, where the number of pilots who actually successfully landed a shot can be counted on 1 hand.

And in this game - its far too easy to do and for the record Battletech has no sniper rifles :)

PGI - needs to make scopes that weigh 1-2 tons for all the so called snipers in this game. We can um...glue them on.

Just keep the reticule shake on all the way until the mech lands.

Fracking Bishop, ninjaing my posts.

The reticle shake is just cosmetic. I nail people at 600+m with a full burn of lasers flying through the screenshake all the time. Makes my firestarter feel like a Gundam. :) (oh, yes I did)

Reading this post kinda makes me hope that PGI nerfs jump sniping completely into the ground until the poptarts are popping out of China.

Your the one acting the part of the baby - let me guess you were the one that always took their ball home? Also something to think about - when you' stop spending money - I'm sure someone will take your place.

But I mean he has a point. Jumpers follow a preditable trajectory. You could try shooting them back.

The only "point" that I derived from his post is that he only wants to play the game his way, he wants his way catered to above all others, and everyone else that wants other ways of play to be more viable than current can go suck on some PPC particles.
