A long time ago

"'A 'Mech as powerful as possible, as impenetrable as possible, and as ugly and foreboding as conceivable, so that fear itself will be our ally.'

Aleksandr Kerensky"

The mere sight of an Atlas had been known to make even a veteran Mechwarrior break out in a cold sweat.

Thanks to '''Juist Kant and Hurr Durr Industries'''! The Atlas and every other 60 ton or above mech now get this reaction;

The mere sight of an Atlas had been known to make even a noob Mechwarrior in a training mech in his first time out squeal 'OMG Free easy kill!"

Thanks to the incompetence, stupidity, lack of forethought and several thousand more descriptive words of 'Juist Kant Industries!' we have gone from:

"""A BattleMech is an armored combat vehicle of roughly humanoid shape, some 10 to 20 meters tall and typically massing from 20 to 100 tons. 'Mechs are best suited for ground combat, although they are also capable of operation underwater, in vacuums and/or in zero-g environments (space)."""

TO

A BattleMech is an armored combat vehicle of roughly humanoid shape, some 10 to 20 meters tall and typically massing from 20 to 100 tons. 'Mechs are best suited for getting stuck on twigs, small rocks, unable to climb 1 degree inclines, unable to fire more that 2 weapons, unable to scape paint off of buildings or cars, although they are also capable of operation in ankle deep water at best where the water helps increase the battlemechs heat , AS vacuums and/or in zero-g environments (space) As shiny reflective lights to guide dropships to their landing bays.

Stupidities to be removed 1 year ago :

1 - Ghost heat

If you don't want to remove it APPLY IT RIGHT!

Light mechs = 50% Max heat! these small balls of tin have NO where for extra heat to go

Medium Mechs = 75% Max heat! Same as lights just a bit bigger

Heavy mechs = 100% Max heat (current state of heat absorption limit on mechs)

Assault Mechs = 150%-200% Max Heat! These chassis are HUGE there limbs are bigger than most light mechs
(A medium laser will heat up an Atlas frame as much as a Locust Frame? Yeah Riggghhhtt!)

2- Hill Incline

Battlemechs were designed to replace older vehicle types because they were able to go places where they could not.

Refet to Juist Kant Industries on Battlemechs above.

Gone just GONE nothing can save hill incline the stupidity.

3 - 50% speed if legged IS FINE

The stupidity that needs gone is the UNLESS A MOSQUITO HIT A LEGS THEN SPEED=0

4 - Missiles are FASTER THAN BULLETS (WAKE TFU!)

5 - Anything hitting a light mech should rock it ALOT MORE than an assault (Refer to Heat % in regards to screen shake % VS mech size)

If you are in an Atlas your world should barely move when hit.

6 - remove all the stupidities above and the game might become FUN AGAIN! (Gasp what a concept!)

Good idea to make Assault and heavy mechs even more powerful compared to Light/Mediums NICE!

1) Light Mechs have less surface to radiate heat to and thus should heat up more/faster than Assaults. So your Heat idea would be backwards.

2) Mechs needed 2x movement points to climb/traverse a Lvl 1(Waist high) Terrain. Just a point to be chewed on.

3) A one legged mech is next to immobile at most 25% movement but more like 10% would be better. As an Atlas Pilot I know what that will mean for me.

4) A Winchester .270 Rifle Bullet travels about 1,924 miles per hour. But that's still not fast enough to shoot down the fastest jet, the SR-71 Blackbird, which travels at 2,193 mph! But that IS slower than a Missile. :)

5) Makes sense to me.

Lights < Mediums < Heavies < Assaults < Lights

In theory anyway. An assault pilot should not be surprised when a light takes him down.

If an Assault is being cored by a Light, the Assault is completely doing it wrong.

Considering that I see the MM indicator showing 30+% for both Assault+Heavies at the time, you must be playing in some magical Elo level where Atlases are hunted down like cattle and the Awesome was actually awesome.

That's become a lot more permanent than "temporary" (as some as claimed) at this point in time.

2- Hill Incline

Well, Russ said they would be looking over it. ETA, who knows?

Quote

3 - 50% speed if legged IS FINE

I complained about some of that before, but people feared the 75kph Light for whatever odd reason... because finishing off the other leg was still "hard".

A skill barrier (in the minds of some) apparently exists.

Quote

4 - Missiles are FASTER THAN BULLETS (WAKE TFU!)

That's actually not true. Missiles have to climb and decline and all this other stuff. Ballistics are instant... even the "slow" AC20.

Quote

5 - Anything hitting a light mech should rock it ALOT MORE than an assault (Refer to Heat % in regards to screen shake % VS mech size)

Outside of realism (which I guess I could agree with), are you sure it's not you that is playing poorly in an assault?

6 - remove all the stupidities above and the game might become FUN AGAIN! (Gasp what a concept!)

Good luck with that.

It's fast enough, you just need to shoot it from the front. Good luck hitting something that's moving that fast without guided missiles though.

Regarding projectile speeds, yeah missiles are a tad too slow with what we currently have in MWO and SRMs should also have some form of guidance, being missiles.

Here are some quick comparisons.

30mm M230 Chain Gun - 805 m/s
30mm GAU-8 Avenger - 1070 m/s
30mm Mk44 Bushmaster II - 1080 m/s
120mm Rheinmetall gun - 1580 to 1750m/s

Rail Gun - 1600 to 2414 m/s, closest prototype to BT's Gauss Rifle and it should be the only Hypersonic Weapon in MWO, IMHO.

M129 Grenade Launcher - 260 m/s

BMG-71 TOW - ~300 m/s
FGM-172 SRAW - 250 m/s
AGM-114 Hellfire - 425 m/s

Hydra 70 - 739 m/s
AIM-92 Stinger - 750 m/s

Edit: added more cannons.

I'm quite excellent at splatting lights with guided missiles TYVM  (TAG+Artemis FTW = ECM chicken light pilot buster ;) )
Mech' Matches Played Wins Losses Ratio Kills Deaths Ratio Damage Done XP Earned Time Played
STALKER STK-5S 176 89 85 1.05 184 113 1.63 72,986 223,946 17:08:23

Then again I do own 133 mechs I own and pilot them ALL,have had every mech in MWO several times ,I have 20K+ matches played since beta and PUG 99%+ of the time so when i say certain weights vs others have problems, I have a little experience comparing them to each other. :)

I think rant's like the OP tend to come from the frustration when swarmed by multiple lights in the slowest assaults like the Atlas.

If you have multiple heavies or assaults, they are going to certainly put the hurt on you as well - the difference is you have a very good chance of choosing one of them to take with you.

This really isn't the case with lights leg humping an Atlas.

If several Assaults are sticking together and covering each other, it will never happen and those lights will likely escape or die. This is a pretty uncommon situation in PUG play unfortunately.

His example is also ignoring that more tonnage, and more available crit slots (since you aren't taking FF usually, and Endo depends on the assault's build) generally means you will in fact have more cooling.

It's just that with the extra available weight, you also tend to load up on even more (and larger) weapons and therefore generate more heat (which I think he is also ignoring).

The only real outlier in the dichotomy between lights/assaults is that my Boar's Head with 6x MLAS and 19 DHS - and a Jenner with 6x MLAS and 14 (maybe 15?) DHS is that the Jenner has the speed to run away and cool off whereas my Boar's Head even with a 375 STD Engine cannot (experimental build, I typically stick with 350 but wanted to try 375).

Honestly I don't see that as an issue with the Jenner, but rather an issue with our Dissipation system.
